The Rockefeller Foundation announced it is launching a $75 million initiative to bring clean energy to rural villages in India reaching one million people!
The initiative is called, Smart Power for Rural Development, and it aims to bring and install solar powered mini-grids in a thousand villages! These will be in the Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. These locations are where fewer than 10 percent of rural households are connected to the national grid. According to the foundation and information released, electricity can increase household per capita income by 39 percent overall! It is also being reported by International Energy Agency that energy demand in India will more than triple over the next thirty years!
