Strategic Planning & Resources Specialist

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 67,000 pilots at 39 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Strategic Planning & Resources Specialist for our McLean, Virginia, office. The Strategic Planning & Resources Specialist coordinates closely with department director and staff as well as other ALPA departments, national officers, and committee* chairs to fulfill ALPA's strategic goals through continuously adjusted alignment of SMD&R services and promotion of Association resources to all members and staff.

They also support the Go Team concept with MECs that request a coordinated approach to strategic planning preparations.

*Committees currently include the Professional Development Group (Education Committee; Leadership Committee; Diversity, Equity, Belonging and Inclusion Committee [DEBI]); Membership Committee and its Furlough and Veterans Affairs subcommittees; Strategic Planning Committee (SPC); and. the Strategic Preparedness and Strike Committee (SPSC).

Local, national, and international travel: 25 - 40%.

Qualifications:

•Bachelor's degree in relevant area, e.g., Communications, English, Journalism, or related field, required, from an accredited college or university; or, the equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
•Cornell Critical Thinking Certificate, Stanford LEAD, or similar online program a definite plus.
•Three (3) years of experience required, five (5) or more years strongly preferred.
•Experience exhibiting the following attributes required:
•Exercising leadership and initiative, ensuring that project benchmarks and deadlines are always met while providing pertinent information to all interested parties;
•Participating in the strategic planning process;
•Understanding the differences between local and national issues;
•Foreseeing and avoiding negative outcomes;
•When desirable, guiding messages for maximum visibility; and,
•Bringing technology, new ideas, and proactive techniques to the role, while adapting and performing professionally during changes in leadership.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with internal staff, pilots, pilot committees, officers, governing bodies, the media, and other external contacts.
•Software: Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Excel required.

Constantly operates a computer/smartphone/tablet. Regularly required to maintain a stationary position, move about the office, determine what others have said or written, and converse with others and exchange accurate information.

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel locally and nationally; international travel may be required infrequently. Also includes occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving, e.g., to pack, unpack, and/or move cases.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, may be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
