Job Description

The Senior Director of Adult Education & Family/Community Engagement (SDAE) will report to and work with the Executive Director to oversee all aspects of education and educational policy. The SDAE will supervise Director of Multilingual Education, and the English for Parents programs in Somerville and Medford, along with Medford’s program coordinator. They will also supervise the Adult ESOL program. They will advocate and organize parents around school policies and issues.

Specific Duties

  • Provide immigrant parents with educational resources such as workshops, trainings and referrals to other organizations
  • Manage and oversee the English for Parents Program in collaboration with Somerville Public Schools
  • Design and implement an adult education curriculum for immigrant parents to empower their engagement and participation in their children’s education
  • Develop metrics for programs that aligns with the organization’s strategic plan
  • Organize parents and youth on educational policies and issues
  • Promotes parents as partners by involving them in the decision-making process regarding parental involvement activities and school improvement
  • Manage and maintain all records, data, and information pertinent to the programs
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s plus 2 years’ experience, or 4 years applicable work experience
  • Bilingual in English and at least one additional language. Bicultural preference.
  • Experience serving as an advocate for children and parents in the school system
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated leader who can work independently as well as part of a team
  • Experience with building relationships and collaborations
  • Have a strong commitment to social, racial and language justice

This is a full-time position reporting to the Executive Director at $60 to 65K, depending on experience and credentials.
