JOB SUMMARY

The Program Officer, REDI (Race, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) Change Learning Journey is a division of the Impact and Operations team, and will be based in Schusterman’s Washington DC, New York NY, Atlanta GA, or San Francisco CA office. The Program Officer will help champion, promote, shape, and implement equity-based initiatives across the Schusterman organization. Reporting to the Director, REDI Change Learning Journey, the Program Officer helps ensure the implementation of the overall REDI plan and associated internal communications; creates and delivers REDI learning materials for staff, supports REDI affinity groups, and collaborates with the REDI Change Team, Schusterman staff and external consultants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Support Schusterman’s REDI Change Learning Journey (60%)

Under the guidance of the Director and in collaboration with the Impact and Operations and Talent and HR teams, the Program Officer will:

  • Implement the organization’s REDI learning and healing journeys, including collaborating with consultants to plan trainings, develop learning opportunities, curate materials, and research new methods or ideas that will enable progress on our REDI journey.
  • Coordinate and project manage the REDI strategic plan in collaboration with staff and REDI consultants, supporting longer term planning and flagging gaps and opportunities in design, execution and/or capacity needs.
  • Support the Director in the creation of materials, tools, and resources for the organization to successfully engage in racial equity, diversity, and inclusion dialogues internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with the Director to plan and advance the work of the REDI Change Team.
  • Regularly engage the REDI Change Team in the key REDI workstreams and ensure their progress.
  • Support the launch and maintenance of organization wide, equity related ad hoc and standing working groups.

Support Cross Functional Initiatives that Build an Equitable and Inclusive Culture (30%)

  • In coordination with the Communications team, implement the REDI communications plan to engage staff around the goals of the REDI plan and share progress in achieving goals and yearly milestones; gather and share feedback with staff as the work advances.
  • Support the implementation of culture enhancing projects at Schusterman, including REDI related Town Halls, internal communications, and other events that seek to build cohesion and increase learning and healing.
  • Provide support in implementing the equity core competencies across the organization.
  • Partner with the Talent and HR team to support the REDI focus and goals in the talent life cycle.
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, shape our internal and external narratives about the REDI Change Learning Journey.

Increase Institutional Knowledge and Understanding (10%)

  • Conduct research on successful implementation of equity focused initiatives, systems and practices within nonprofit and philanthropic organizations and bring that knowledge to help advance Schusterman’s REDI work.
  • Develop a network of relationships with like-minded organizations and similar/peer roles to mutually support our equity and culture-building work.
  • Research and gather best practices on how to coach and support internal leaders in supporting the organization’s equity-based goals and initiatives.

  • Operationalizes race, equity, gender, diversity and inclusion within their strategic planning processes.
  • Uses qualitative and quantitative data to identify inequitable policies and practices and implements continuous improvement strategies to ensure more equitable outcomes.
  • Effectively manages complex, multi-year projects across multiple teams and stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are representative of the high level of demonstrated skills, maturity, judgment, and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies required of Schusterman employees:

  • 6+ years of professional and/or academic experience in racial equity work, philanthropy, economic mobility, social justice, education or a related field in the private or public sector.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience. An advanced degree in a related field is desirable.
  • Alignment with Schusterman’s mission and core values.
  • Deep belief and commitment to racial equity as a key lever in achieving social and economic justice in the U.S.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting organizations to implement REDI initiatives and culture strategies.
  • Ability to empathetically navigate equity issues in an organizational context.
  • Perspective from direct experience living or working in communities of Color strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing learning programs using adult learning methodologies, strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship skills with a professional and genial demeanor, and the ability to work with people with different backgrounds and experiences.
  • Excellent project management skills, including experience operating complex, multi-year projects.
  • Results-oriented, with a track record of execution against agreed upon goals and deliverables.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills are essential, including the ability to present to groups and craft well-written prose and PowerPoint materials.
  • Sound judgment and discretion, seeking input and feedback, listening well and understanding the need for collaboration and leadership’s endorsement of results.
  • Open to finding creative, alternative solutions to challenges and disagreements that may arise.
  • Strong computer skills with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and the ability to master new software quickly. Experience with Microsoft SharePoint is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% domestically.

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary band of $95,000 - $145,000 based on experience and on Schusterman’s commitment to internal equity. A strong benefits package is also included. Schusterman encourages ongoing professional development and supports activities aligned with one’s individual career growth plan. Schusterman does not cover relocation expenses for this position.
