ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The First Presbyterian Church Greenwich Nursery School (First Presby) provides early childhood education for children ages two through five. The school is located in the heart of Greenwich, housed in both the First Presbyterian Church located at the top of Greenwich Avenue, and the Nursery Building across the way. The school serves approximately 120 children across ten classrooms.

We strive to develop a love of learning through play and theme based experiences, that prepare each child socially, emotionally, and cognitively with readiness skills for a successful transition to kindergarten and life beyond.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

First Presby is seeking a full-time Nursery School Director who can embody, implement and practice the mission of First Presby among the Nursery School, Church and broader Greenwich community. The Director selects, supervises and provides professional development and direction for faculty. He/She develops, implements and directs curriculum, and supervises programming.

The Director works closely with families and coordinates the school’s operation with the Church. The Nursery School Director must possess the highest integrity, patience, tact, warmth, professionalism, and organizational skills to be an effective team leader. It is critical that the Director is sensitive to confidential information and able to interact effectively with children, parents, faculty, church management, Elders/Session (the governing board of the church) and regulatory authorities.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have:
• Master’s Degree in Education or Early Childhood Education
• At least 10 years of experience in Early Childhood Education
• Effectively supervised a staff, including hiring, managing, evaluating and training
• Experience with Early Childhood Licensing Compliance
• The knowledge to develop effective curriculum and programs
• Experience developing a strategic plan
• Experience with successful development/fundraising activities

• Demonstrated business management skills including responsibility for a budget, financial results, accountability for performance, enrollment targets, etc.
• The vision, skill and desire to expand a program beyond its current scope

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Organizational
a. Implement the mission and vision of the nursery school
b. Continually evaluate and improve recruitment and retention process
c. Implement fundraising plan in coordination with Parent Advisory Board and Church Session
d. Create and nurture program to emphasize community building and values
e. Manage the Nursery School budget in coordination with Church Business Office

2. Educational
a. Select, supervise, evaluate and provide professional development for faculty
b. Develop, implement and oversee targeted and established curriculum
c. Monitor progress and development of all students
d. Oversee special education needs for children.
e. Develop and implement enrichment programs throughout the year
e. Serve as liaison with other educational programs and associations

3. Professional Staff
a. Recruit and hire new faculty as needed
b. Guide and supervise faculty through classroom visits and weekly meetings
c. Guide staff growth through professional development as a group as well as individuals
d. Support faculty communication through weekly parent newsletters

4. Community Relations
a. Work with Parent Advisory Board to support the needs of the nursery school, including
attending monthly meetings
b. Send weekly parent newsletters
c. Be available to parents for meetings and counseling
d. Participate in the admission process by hosting information sessions, meeting individually with families and following up with interested families
e. Prepare monthly updates for the Elder of the Church for the Nursery School
f. Attend weekly staff meeting at FPC
g. Attend church functions as able
h. Participate in the Greenwich Preschool Director’s Group
i. Represent First Presby in the Greenwich community
