Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The primary role of this position is to manage all aspects of NatureServe projects involving the preparation, analyses, and provision of NatureServe’s Biodiversity Location Data (BLD) developed by NatureServe and its Network Programs. The projects managed by this position involve identifying the conservation information needs of clients and working collaboratively with the science and technical staff across NatureServe and the NatureServe Network Programs to develop workplans and oversee the work required to complete project deliverables effectively, on time, and within budget. This position requires collaboration with NatureServe Network staff, U.S. and Canadian Federal Agencies, private industry, consultants, and conservation non-profits. In addition, this position works collaboratively with the Director of BLD Program in cultivating opportunities to extend and expand conservation work with both new agencies and organizations, and those we currently have relationships with. This position tracks data requests from external users, working with NatureServe’s BLD team to respond promptly to these requests, and continually contribute to making the data delivery processes more efficient and effective including contributing to the development of NatureServe data delivery through Explorer Pro, and other online tools. This position reports to the Director of the BLD Program and is a non-supervisory role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

BLD Project Management Duties

1.       Develop project management work plans, lead kick-off and project team meetings, track, and report project status to project teams and clients, and lead development of final products and reports including final review of  spatial data and metadata to ensure standardization and high-quality products.

2.       Ensure the completion of all administrative and technical tasks required to complete project deliverables within the project timelines and budget, including by coordinating with NatureServe and NatureServe Network staff, and managing contracts, subcontracts, task orders, and budgets.

3.       Work with BLD Program Team to track, prioritize, and coordinate incoming data requests in order to ensure prompt responses. Summarize information about data requests and project progress with Director of BLD Program and other stakeholders on a quarterly basis to enable effective communication with Network Program and support business development opportunities.

4.       Track current BLD license agreements and coordinate evaluations and follow-up with all data users to ensure satisfaction, renewal of license, and adherence to data license terms.

5.       Work with Director of BLD Program and other NatureServe staff to develop new project contracts that support the development and delivery of NatureServe Network data and analytical products with new and existing clients.

 

Communication and other Support

6.       Provide Director of BLD Program and Communications staff with summaries of project outcomes to support external communications that highlight success stories on the NatureServe website.

7.       Represent NatureServe and NatureServe Network through presentations of project outcomes at conferences and meetings as needed.

8.       Work with the Project Management Office (PMO) team to develop and document Project Management (PM) best practices that serve NatureServe’s organizational goals.

9.       Carry out the above duties in a manner that maximizes collaboration and integration between NatureServe staff and NatureServe Network Program staff.

10.    Perform other duties as required.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ABILITIES:

1.       Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment while managing multiple complex projects and demands.

2.       Energized through interactions with others, including NatureServe staff, partners, and clients.

3.       At least four years of experience in project management including managing large, complex projects from start of project to project close.

4.       Experience managing U.S. federal agency contracts including projects that support compliance with environmental policies and regulations.

5.       Demonstrated success with proposal development, including assessing client needs, creation of accurate budgets, and proposal writing.

6.       Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, basic ArcGIS, Excel, and project management and client support tools.

7.       Bachelor’s degree in the field of environmental science/policy, natural resource management, or similar.

8.       Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proficient editing and report design skills.

9.       Keen organizational skills.

10.   Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set priorities, and work independently.

11.   Commitment to conservation.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ABILITIES:

1.       Project Management Professionals (PMP) certification.

2.       Working knowledge of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Endangered Species Act, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Water Act, and other federal policies and regulations that support biodiversity conservation.

3.       Experience in business development, including conducting outreach to potential clients, scoping project plans and timelines, writing and editing proposals, and tracking progress in Salesforce.

4.       Experience working with private industry including compliance with environmental regulations and standards. Particular industries of interest include oil and gas, timber, and pesticides.

5.       Proficient in development and use of ArcGIS Survey123, Atlassian/JIRA tools, and FreshDesk.

6.       Intermediate skills in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

7.       Knowledge of NatureServe and the field of biodiversity conservation.

8.       Experience working with NatureServe Network Programs.

9.       Experience with NatureServe methods and standards including its Biotics data management system.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Ability to travel independently to attend meetings and conferences.

·         Ability to converse verbally and in writing.

·         Ability to maintain a full-time position with some extended hours required to travel and attend events.

·         Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
