Description

We seek an experienced and energetic professional who will lead and strengthen our electoral campaigns across our grassroots network of volunteers. Our end goal is planning and organizing winning campaigns in a shifting political environment. The Associate Director of Grassroots Electoral Campaigns will work closely with the Field and Political teams to develop and execute rigorous political and civic engagement programs, including our Gun Sense Candidate programs.

The Associate Director manages long-term strategic thinking about how Everytown and its grassroots can use political engagement to build sustainable power for our fight to end gun violence in this country and supports the day-to-day grassroots elections work of our volunteers.  Note: this role is tied to the campaign cycle and will run through November 2022.

A strong candidate will have significant experience managing and training volunteers, developing political and field campaign strategies and working across departments.

Primary Responsibilities 

The Associate Director of Grassroots Electoral Campaigns will join the Movement Building division and will report to the Managing Director of Data, Analytics and Electoral Strategy and work closely with the Senior Vice President, Political Affairs. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall development, success and growth of our electoral program across our grassroots network. Major responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of our Grassroots Electoral training program for volunteers and staff, in consultation with the training team
  • Strengthen the electoral capacity of our grassroots, including identifying strategic opportunities for growth and success
  • Oversee development of our grassroots electoral plan by working with the Political Team, state and regional pods as well as other key stakeholders and state-based partners in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of voter engagement and political programs;
  • Coordinate with other departments within the organizations to ensure that the electoral program aligns with Everytown’s broader strategy, particularly close coordination with organizing, local, state and federal affairs and political teams ·
  • Represent Everytown in key tables, coalitions, and meetings with allies and national partners related to grassroots electoral engagement;
  • Partner with the Communications, Field and Political Team to project externally Everytown’s electoral agenda and message;
  • Provide strategic advice to the Organizing and Political teams on program development including long-term strategy and growth, targeting, electoral, and ballot initiative opportunities;

Job Requirements

  • A demonstrated commitment to ending gun violence in America and diversity equity and inclusion
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in grassroots electoral, civic engagement, or political campaigns
  • At least 3+ years' of volunteer management experience; staff management experience is a plus
  • Has a strong political network and relationships with leaders within the political landscape
  • Experience working across departments or teams within an organization
  • Experience managing large scale or statewide grassroots,  political or voter engagement campaigns
  • Familiarity with political data, field tools and technologies, and best practices in the field
  • Independent and strong leader that is able to drive project and programs to completion in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work within a coalition of diverse organizations and partners
  • Experience working in diverse communities and with grassroots networks
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Results-focused and organized
  • Self-motivated – proven ability to work independently

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - 95,000/year. We offer benefits including health insurance, vision, and dental, as well as 20 paid vacation days and 10 sick days per year.
