As the nonprofit 501(c)(3) arm of the New York City Bar Association, the City Bar Fund mobilizes New York City lawyers to do good work for people in need and for the legal profession. The City Bar Fund's four programs – the City Bar Justice Center, the Cyrus R. Vance Center fro International Justice, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, and the Lawyer Assistance Program – channel the power of volunteering into positive impact: #GREATLAWYERS4GOOD

 

JOB FUNCTION

In partnership with the directors of the four City Bar Fund programs, the Development and Communications Associate supports fundraising, development and administrative activities for the City Bar Fund as a whole and each project by developing new relationships to build the City Bar Fund’s brand through increased visibility, impact, and financial resources.  The Associate works closely with the City Bar Fund’s Board of Directors, Committees and potential donors.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Collaborate with the New York City Bar Association Executive Director, the City Bar Fund project directors, and Board members on all major fundraising initiatives and Board governance activities.
  • Handle communications and materials for the Board of Directors (e.g., calendar of meetings, agendas, Board book, minutes, and board packets and materials for meetings), and other tasks as requested by the Directors, Chair of the Board or Board Committee Chairs.
  • Implement strategies and handle key communications for the City Bar Fund brand to generate awareness/increased visibility among City Bar members, the New York City legal and philanthropic communities, and the public through social media, newsletters, website, events, print marketing and media relations.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining foundation relationships and serve as a contact for funders including corporate sponsorships and individual donor solicitation activities.
  • Develop reports that provide an overview of law firm and corporate City Bar Fund engagement to analyze how institutions are connected to each City Bar Fund program and to the City Bar.
  • Respond to online inquiries about the City Bar Fund from the public and potential donors.
  • Assist with research and preparation of fundraising proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach to be submitted to governmental entities, foundations, public and private corporations.
  • Execute a yearly City Bar Fund Annual Appeal, which involves an annual report, managing the donor mailing list and expanding and diversifying the City Bar Fund’s donor base/pipeline to increase donors, and to re-engage lapsed donors, and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders.
  • Maintain copies of City Bar Fund grant proposals and submission renewals, and maintain and track submissions to governmental entities, foundations, public and private corporations.
  • Other projects as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s Degree or higher, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum two years’ work experience; non-profit experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; knowledge of effective fundraising strategies, ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
  • High energy and passion for the City Bar Fund’s mission of mobilizing New York’s legal community for good is essential.
  • Capable of working independently and as a team player
  • Outstanding project management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail; ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources) is highly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills.

 

The City Bar currently offers a hybrid work environment consistent with public health guidelines. Candidates for this position will be expected to work out of our offices located in the City Bar building in midtown Manhattan part of the time and can also work remotely for part of the time; schedule can be flexible. The City Bar requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to entering our building. Additional information about this policy is available via Human Resources.
