At Guide Dogs for the Blind, we create exceptional partnerships between people, dogs, and communities. With a network of instructors, puppy trainers, donors, and volunteers, we prepare highly qualified guide dogs to serve and empower individuals who are blind or visually impaired throughout the U.S. and Canada. As an Accounting Specialist at our San Rafael, CA location, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission. You will be responsible for daily cash management, key parts of the monthly close accounting cycle, and quarterly and yearly reporting.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform daily financial transactions, including initiating and recording deposits, transfers, and ACH activities
  • Reconcile contribution and bequest revenue monthly
  • Monitor cash projections and prepare drawdown documents
  • Record investment activity, reconcile balance statements, and record purchases, sales, dividends, and gains/losses
  • Maintain workbooks for restricted contributions and pledges
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts and record journal entries and reclassifications
  • Reconcile inventory cost of goods sold for online and physical gift shops
  • Maintain and reconcile the petty cash fund
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports
  • Assist with audit of the annual financial statements and tax returns by preparing schedules and documents

The qualifications you’ll need:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, business administration, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of related accounting experience, including cash accounting, revenue, and restricted net assets
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP and principles of accounting as applied to non-profits; experience with nonprofit and investment accounting preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365 with particular emphasis on Excel and shared file systems; NetSuite and Salesforce preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in decision-making, organization, planning, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and oral and written communications

Pay Range:
