CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ENDOWMENT FOUNDATION - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

General Information

CSEF Mission: Provide tuition assistance to families who wish to send their children to Catholic schools
Position: Executive Director
Reports To: Catholic Schools Endowment Foundation Board of Directors

 

Position Summary

The Executive Director of CSEF leads all aspects of the Foundation’s operations. This includes fundraising
efforts (such as major gifts, grants, annual fund, planned giving, special events) and distribution of CSEF
funds to schools and families. The Executive Director also works closely with Board sub-committees to
establish and review policies that guide the Foundation, create the CSEF annual operating budget,
coordinate with the Archdiocese, and otherwise further the mission of CSEF. The Executive Director also
supervises the CSEF Communications Coordinator (1.0 FTE) and staffs all board subcommittees. The
Director reports to the CSEF Board of Directors and serves at the pleasure of the Archbishop of Portland
in Oregon.

 

Core Duties

1. Fundraise year-round in support of CSEF. This includes establishing ongoing relationships with alumni
and donors through meaningful contacts (phone calls, face to face meetings, etc.), leading our annual
appeal campaign, spearheading donor cultivation and stewardship, and providing strong support for
principals and inspiring lay leaders and donors to take action to ensure the legacy of Catholic school
education.
2. Using an online clearinghouse of financial aid data submitted by Oregon families (FACTS), calculate
and distribute block grants to schools and tuition assistance grants to families from CSEF general
endowment and individual named endowments.
3. Collaborate with board members, Archdiocesan leadership, pastors, principals, and staff to broaden
awareness about CSEF throughout the community.
4. Produce semi-annual print media (Annual Report and Spring Magazine) in collaboration with
Communications Coordinator.
5. Research, prepare and submit grant proposals to foundations (with support from Communications
Coordinator and contract Grant Writer)
6. Assist in the planning and implementation of an annual event (currently a Christmas gala held in mid-
December)
7. Supervise full-time Communications Coordinator

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or terminal degree preferred. Six to eight years of relevant experience
    or combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience

  • Proven track record in leading a charitable foundation or non-profit
  • Experience leading a campaign highly desirable (especially fundraising for Catholic school education)
  • Familiarity with Catholic schools and the Catholic school community in Oregon
  • Experience with financial management, preparing and implementing budgets, etc.
  • Recruiting and working with a volunteer Board
  • Donor database experience preferred

Skills

  • Proven skills in managing a number of competing priorities and complex issues creatively and
    effectively.
  • Skilled at articulating compelling cases for major gifts, planned giving, and annual discretionary
    support.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage through highly effective presentations and
    communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies and develop long-term
    relationships that enhance overall goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to collaborate and build high performing teams
    to achieve results.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and function effectively in a complex organizational environment
    demanding a high energy level, discretion, and flexibility.
