The Accounting Manager role will organize our financial systems and records to accommodate our unique structure and growth plans. This position is a full-time, salaried position with attractive benefits.

ROLEThe Accounting Manager is a hands-on role on a small entrepreneurial team. You are responsible for leading Activation Capital's day-to-day accounting operations ensuring compliance. You have a keen attention to detail and exceptional skills of organization. The span of work for the role encompasses annual budgeting & forecasting support, accounting including grant accounting, management & performance reporting, and HR/Benefits administration.

Requirements

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Participate in the annual budget planning process.
  • Work with leadership to build forecasting reports and analyze actual to variance budgets.

Accounting, Administration & Controls

  • Work with finance leadership to maintain an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures under the General Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Document internal accounting processes to ensure compliance and continuity of internal business practices; working with leadership to create new processes and policies on an as needed basis.
  • Bookkeeping – accounts receivable and accounts payable administration; bank account reconciliation.
  • Coordinate with audit partners to produce reports, ensuring data integrity with general ledger and process review.
  • Seek improvements in administrative and operational accounting services/processes such as treasury management, retirement plan, grant processing, payroll/HR, accounts receivable/payable, purchasing, and vendor management.
  • Manage accounting/reporting to ensure compliance with GASB audit standards and statutory requirements.
  • Provide operational support for Activation Capital programs and coordinate financial reporting.
  • Coordinate relationships with third-party finance/accounting vendors, payroll management, auditors, tax vendors, etc. to ensure frictionless processes.
  • Provide back-office accounting guidance to startups within our ecosystem.
  • Reconcile credit cards monthly.

Financial Analysis & Business Performance Reporting

  • Work with leadership to create reports on business performance, including financial results and key metrics.
  • Prepare reports for quarterly board meetings.

Grant Accounting

  • Work with operations and grant administration to map grants to appropriate general ledger line items; work with grant submission teams to ensure general ledger alignment.
  • Continuous tracking of expended grant dollars.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and submitting requests for reimbursements.
  • Adhering to all state and federal grant guidelines; working with external subject matter experts to ensure 100% compliance while continuously learning.

Human Resources Administration

  • Run bi-monthly payroll; creating payroll journal entries.
  • Bi-monthly reconciliation of health benefit payments.
  • Provide and process paperwork for new employees, contractors, and vendors including various tax forms, health insurance forms, retirement system entry, and any other required documents.

Also, includes other duties not otherwise specified.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance; CPA is a plus
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Accounting, with significant management of complex organizational systems and reporting standards
  • Exceptional organization skills are required
  • Experience with government/nonprofit organization finance and accounting regulations; a plus but not required
  • Experience with payroll and benefits administration; a plus but not required
  • Experience working with external auditors and in-house financial management experience
  • Experience with construction project accounting; a plus but not required
  • QuickBooks proficient and/or the ability to learn new systems and generate reports to visualize financial data
  • A collaborative individual with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A learning mindset is a major plus
  • Professionally represents the organization to the community, vendors, and internal personnel
  • The typical full-time work schedule is Monday through Friday. This is a hybrid role with partial remote work.
