Compensation:

  • In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position.  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Role Summary

The primary purpose of your position is to assist the Director of Adult and Transition Services with facilitating the Hatlen Center for the Blind, Assistive Technology, and Employment Services programs to ensure client needs and goals are met.  This includes organizing and coordinating the adult instructional and residential components including oversight of the program facilities and equipment, and coordination of the policies, procedures, and practices for the programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer the day-to-day aspects of Hatlen Center for the Blind, ensuring high quality educational and residential experiences leading to continued successful completion of individual student goals and full compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Provide coordination of the educational and case management component of the Hatlen Center for the Blind through direct supervision of the case management along with the lead technology instructor, the lead Braille instructor, the lead ILS instructor, the O&M Specialists, Financial advisor and their respective classes. 
  • Assists in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring and evaluation of DPI instructional program staff. Responsible for supervision, performance feedback, payroll, and performance appraisals of all assigned staff including the ATT Coordinator, Braille Instructor, O&M Instructors, ILS Instructor, financial advisor and Technology Instructor.
  • Establish and maintain practices ensuring that students are exposed to a wide variety of resources and role models through frequently scheduled guest speakers to include representatives of consumer groups, other service providers, program graduates, and others as determined by the needs and goals of students currently enrolled in the program.
  • Facilitate referrals to the Hatlen Center for the Blind through effective and ongoing communication with Department of Rehabilitation personnel through phone calls, mailings, personal contacts, visits, tours, and presentations at District Offices. This major responsibility focuses on effectively meeting the needs of clients in need of services.
  • Participates in outreach and student recruitment, including ensuring the timely intake of students referred to the program through the Department of Rehabilitation and any other referring sources.
  • Assist in ensuring regular program evaluation activities that may for the basis of new program initiatives as determined by the needs of students, their Department of Rehabilitation Counselors, and program staff.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as rehabilitation, education, visual impairment, social work, or psychology or 7 years of management experience working with people with disabilities or school setting.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in the field of education, rehabilitation and providing services to the visually impaired.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisory role.
  • Familiarity with standards and legal and regulatory aspects of vocational, educational, and residential services for the blind.
  • Knowledge of appropriate service delivery standards and practices and the ability to implement them administratively and programmatically.
  • Proven ability as a professional in the field and previous administrative experience required.
