Description

Pre-K-12 Education Fellow and Manager, Bridges Collaborative

Hybrid (Two days per week in office and three days remote work) | New York City Preferred | Minimum Salary: $90K Maximum Salary: $105K

The Century Foundation (TCF), an independent progressive public policy think tank, seeks a fellow to contribute to the pre-K-12 education team’s work on educational equity and manage the Bridges Collaborative, a network of education and housing organizations committed to socioeconomic and racial integration in schools and neighborhoods.

The Bridges Collaborative is reigniting a nationwide movement for integrated schools and diverse neighborhoods, serving as a hub for practitioners from across the country. Since its launch in 2020, the Bridges Collaborative has worked with leaders from over 60 school districts, charter schools and CMOs, and housing organizations, providing them the space and opportunity to learn from one another, build grassroots political support, and develop successful strategies for integration.

The fellow will recruit and sustain relationships with Bridges Collaborative members, facilitate meetings to promote peer-to-peer learning, help write reports regarding policy issues related to school integration and educational equity more broadly, and communicate about the importance of diversity.

This is a hybrid position based out of TCF’s New York City office and reporting to senior fellow Halley Potter. For an exceptional candidate, virtual may be an option, with occasional travel for team meetings and conferences. This position is grant-funded.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing the Bridges Collaborative, an initiative to promote school integration.
  • Communicating with Bridges Collaborative members and other partners on a regular basis and building strong relationships.
  • Managing the member listserv, writing and sending regular newsletters, and promoting TCF’s education work on social media
  • Planning and executing discussions and peer groups
  • Identifying new members in the traditional public school, charter and fair housing sectors who are dedicated to promoting school integration and persuading them to participate in national and regional meetings with their peers.
  • Providing content to update the Bridges Collaborative website
  • Presenting research or training to Bridges members and/or external audiences
  • Organizing in-person regional and national convenings
  • Writing reports and other resources both for Collaborative members and for broader audiences (such as school districts, journalists, researchers, and advocates) that document best practices and highlight strategies for advancing integration.
  • Engaging the media and the education policy community with stories of member successes and research on the benefits of school integration. This could include writing op-eds, presenting at conferences, and doing interviews with journalists.
  • Training school leaders, teachers, parents and community members about how to discuss the importance of school integration.
  • Pursuing research on other educational equity issues, with some flexibility to expand the range of topics addressed by TCF.
  • Contributing to the pre-K-12 team’s work engaging potential funders
  • Occasional travel for meetings and events.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of previous related experience and/or graduate studies in public policy or education.
  • Experience working on socioeconomic and racial school integration and housing integration is a significant plus.
  • Experience effectively organizing large groups of individuals on behalf of a larger cause.
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • A commitment to looking at education issues through an intersectional lens, recognizing the importance of elevating the experiences of low-income students, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, English learners, and students of color.
  • A commitment to progressive values and interest in TCF’s education research agenda.
