Founded in 1999, Progressive Community Health Centers is an independent non-profit organization that operates four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. More than 100 employees support our agency's mission to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs. We provide high quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually, a majority of who are low-income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. We value a patient-centered philosophy and provide range of services that include family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, urgent care, dental, radiology and integrated behavioral health. We also offer supportive services such as case management, health education and benefits enrollment.


What will you do?
This is a key leadership position within the clinical management team. Responsibilities include the day-to-day effective and efficient operations of the Urgent Care clinic. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer with direct oversight of the clinic's medical support and the referral specialist staff to assure the clinic operates in accordance with PCHC's Mission and objectives. This position is a highly visible, hands on member of the clinical support team. This Nursing Supervisor is responsible for direct patient care, and managing the delivery of safe, effective and efficient nursing services and patient care throughout the Urgent Care clinic. This accountability is exercised by assessing, monitoring, reviewing, planning, organizing, implementing, managing and evaluating processes, workflows and functions that provide nursing and patient care according to accepted standards of practice and performance. This individual is responsible for defining and achieving service and quality outcomes that are sensitive to nursing and patient care. The position has shared responsibility for compliance with accreditation, regulatory, federal and state rules and regulations as well as organizational policy and procedures. The supervisor must be able to work flexible hours to encompass coverage of the Urgent Care clinic. The supervisor will work closely with, other clinic leaders, department leaders, mid-level and support staff to ensure the delivery of quality, cost effective health care.



  1. Supervise assigned clinical support personnel and assist in educating, staffing, hiring, performance management, training and ensuring competency assessments are completed.
  2. Maintain compliance with PCHC policy and procedures and with external regulatory bodies such as HRSA, OSHA and CLIA.
  3. Able to perform clinical nursing staff role and responsibilities in order to meet patient care needs at the Urgent Care clinic.
  4. Assure adequate and efficient workflow.
  5. Utilize daily huddles to promote communication and efficient clinic flow.
  6. Monitor staff schedules on a daily basis to assure adequate patient access and support staff as needed to meet provider demand.
  7. Monitor timeliness of care and the referral management process.
  8. Foster effective/ongoing communication between medical support staff, provider(s) and management.
  9. Perform public relations and patient liaison activities including conflict resolution and complaint disposition.
  10. Facilitate and lead clinic performance improvement activities including patient and staff satisfaction and safety activities.



  • Two years of experience in ambulatory care nursing is required.
  • Two years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., nurse manager, manager, charge nurse, supervisor, assistant nurse manager) is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact) (or eligible for Wisconsin licensure).
