Job Description

Ashé Cultural Art Center’s innovative programming is designed to utilize culture in fostering human development and civic engagement. We maintain 10,000 square feet of gallery space and 20,000 square feet of performance space to create and preserve opportunities for the curation, exhibition, and commission of fine, folk, and fine-folk art. Producing over 350 music, theater, dance, spoken word, drum circles, and multi-disciplinary events a year, Ashé believes in art as a paradigm-shifting call to action. As ecosystem builders, we deliver programming and direct services that support, leverage, and celebrate the people, places, and philosophies of the African Diaspora.

The mission of Ashé Cultural Arts Center is to use art and culture to support human, community, and economic development.

Employment: Part-time/Contract (tentative start: April 1, 2024 and tentative end: August 2, 2024)

Salary: $850/week

Status: Non-Exempt

Supervise: Kuumba Institute Staff

Reports To: Ashé Cultural Arts Center Community Programs Director

SUMMARY

To serve as Program Coordinator for the Kuumba Institute Youth Arts Program creating, coordinating, supervising, and overseeing the daily activities of students, counselors and artists and the overall facilitation of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and coordinate all program operations including daily activity schedules running weekly Monday through Friday. 
  • Create all program-related correspondence and promotional materials, i.e., fliers, brochures, programs, forms, memos, policies, handbooks, guidelines, sign-in sheets, etc.
  • Create curriculum and lesson plan information for all instructors/artists to follow, order all supplies necessary, and accommodate all artist's needs for successful class instruction.
  • Create all correspondence and facilitate staff orientation and parent orientation, i.e. contracts, invoices, lesson plan templates, staff policies, job descriptions, student handbooks, forms, etc. 
  • Process and organize all accounting information, i.e. check requests, payroll, accounts receivables/tuition payments, employee reimbursements, field trip fees, t-shirt purchases, etc.
  • Create, process, and organize all surveys, assessments, and correspondence related to evaluations and data collection, i.e., student database, attendance logs, tuition logs, staff database, student-teacher ratios, disciplinary reports, etc.
  • Organize and oversee all baseline data collection, i.e., student weight and height measurements, pre- surveys, and assessments
  • Create all menus, schedule and order all meals with catering service 
  • Oversee facility management and maintenance of space, counselor activity, and responsibility, the communication between parents and counselors, class transitions and scheduling, and the distribution of breakfast, lunch, and snack
  • Supervise the management of students with behavioral issues, including behavior reports
  • Report and handle all communication and correspondence for accidents/incidents including incident report forms
  • Schedule, create, and direct culminating events for each session
  • Schedule and organize all field trips and performances, including check requests, bus requests, permission slips, parent memorandums, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in working with arts education programs
  • Computer skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Practicing/Performing artist

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • College Education and a minimum of 5 years experience in youth arts programs/education
