FUND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR 

Since 1951, the not-for-profit VNA has provided a wide range of home health care, serving Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and South Santa Clara counties. VNA places an emphasis on individual patient needs and goals, providing care in an ethical, effective, compassionate and fiscally responsible manner.

Job Summary

Directs all functions of the Development Department. Assists in formulation and implementation of the one- year and five-year plans including budgeting for meeting the fund-raising goals of the organization.  Assures complete and accurate donor records.  Assures timely acknowledgment of gifts and provides for donor recognition.  Helps build effective development committees and ensures productive use of volunteers through involvement and staff direction

 Responsibilities

Design, recommend and implement fundraising activities including, but not limited to, face-to-face solicitation, direct mail, special events, acknowledgments, and cultivation programs.  Research grant opportunities (foundations and corporations) and maintains a calendar of deadlines and submissions, reporting efforts and progress to Executive Leadership and Board as assigned. Coordinate tracking of current grants to ensure compliance with interim and final reporting requirements, reports deadlines and program updates from funders. Lead the Team for all fundraising and donor appreciation events

 Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications

Experience in contributing to the growth of an organization by supporting new partnerships or business development opportunities.  Knowledge of trends and best practices in philanthropy.   Knowledge of the range of philanthropic vehicles available to donors, including the tax and compliance requirements associated with each, as well as gifting and grantmaking. Experience working on gift campaigns and/or experience working with donors.  Experience writing successful grant proposals and all required grant reports.  Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with diverse people and in diverse groups.  Excellent writing, editing, analytical and oral communication skills including the ability to collect, review, synthesize and present information and findings.  Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make strategic and tactical decisions to develop and grow program.  Degree in fundraising, business, liberal arts, or relevant field helpful, High School Diploma or equivalent required.  3-5 years’ experience in development, public relations or fund raising.
