Description
Community HousingWorks (CHW), a nationally recognized nonprofit developer of affordable housing real estate communities, is seeking a knowledgeable and highly driven Financial Coach, in our Achieve division in San Diego, California. The primary responsibility of the position is to help our low-income residents improve their financial well-being. The Financial Coach is responsible for meeting people where they are at financially, whether it be to: (a) address a current financial crisis; (b) meet their day-to-day financial obligations; or (c) plan for the future. The Financial Coach is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of Achieve's Financial Well-being Programs.
This is a temporary position, expected to last an estimated 4-6 months
Essential Functions
- Delivers effective and efficient Financial Well-Being Programs:
- Financial Stability Program - Through our Rental Home Stability Program (RHSP), financial coaches help residents facing financial hardship regain financial stability and prevent eviction.
- Financial Security Program - Through our Financial Fitness Classes, financial coaches help residents gain the knowledge and take action to effectively manage their money and make positive financial choices to gain financial security, including: budgeting, credit building, debt reduction and increase savings.
- Financial Mobility Program - Through our Financial Health Club, financial coaches help residents to not only increase their income, but also build wealth and assets that are critical in advancing economic self-sufficiency and financial mobility, including: long-term savings, buying a house, purchasing a vehicle, starting a business, investing for education, or retirement plan.
- Provides personalized financial coaching sessions, determines participant's individualized plan of action relevant to the individual's situation
- Analyzes and evaluates resident finances to determine housing affordability.
- Makes appropriate referrals for resident as a support system to carry out action plan.
- Enters data related to coaching participant in the designated database using organization guidelines and procedures
- Fosters coach/participant relationships by providing ongoing support via individual email phone, or virtual coaching in order to assist participants in overcoming barriers, providing ongoing referrals or celebrating milestones and successes.
- Offers coaching in English and Spanish as needed.
- Facilitates classes and workshops utilizing adult education and participatory training strategies.
- Actively participate in outreach activities with other members of Achieve Team.
- Works collaboratively with other Financial Coaches to assure effective and efficient coordination of delivery of financial well-being services.
- Tracks, reports, evaluates, and achieves on-site performance goals and objectives, ensuring that each site performs to standard and meets individualized performance goals.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Education
- BA degree in Social Science, Business, Education, Economics, Psychology, Human Development, or related field
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
- Must have two or more years' experience in personalized coaching or counseling
- Experience working with diverse and low-income populations
- Experience working in affordable housing-related environments desirable
- Experience in financial planning, credit, real estate, lending, or financial education
- Experience in the facilitation of adult training/classes
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work independently with self-direction and in team setting
- Able to work flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends
- Financial Capabilities, HUD Housing Counseling and/or National industry standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling preferred
