Mission

It is the mission of the Texas Restaurant Foundation (TRF) to provide educational opportunities to build and maintain a strong professional foodservice workforce in Texas. The Texas Restaurant Foundation is the go-to educational resource for the restaurant industry in the great state of Texas and serves as the workforce arm of the Texas Restaurant Association (TRA). With more than 50,000 restaurant and foodservice establishments across Texas, the work of the Foundation is to support the current workforce while growing the future talent of the industry.

 

Position Description

The Foundation seeks a Director who will lead fundraising and education programming to provide educational opportunities to build and maintain a strong professional foodservice workforce in Texas. This individual will

lead the next phase of impact and increased investment for the TRF. The Executive Director will work in partnership with the President & CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association and the Board of Trustees to bring organizational leadership to the Foundation that advances its mission.

 

The Foundation currently has 13 endowment members fulfilling their 10-year pledges. Additionally, fundraising efforts include partnerships, giving campaigns, donations, grants, curriculum sales, events and revenue from fundraisers. Funds are distributed as scholarships, to execute on education programming, and in the creation of workforce development programs.

 

The successful candidate will be a proven strategic leader with a track record of innovation, systems change, and a learning orientation that fosters impact and effectiveness in the art of fundraising, grantmaking and philanthropic investment. The new Director will possess an inclusive leadership style, outstanding leadership and self-starter skills, and have deep experience building and working within a high-functioning and effective association executive leadership team. This individual will be an adaptive, collaborative leader who engenders trust and respect with the aim of developing philanthropic strategies grounded in the awareness and improvement of effective foodservice education and training and reflective of all involved stakeholders. The successful candidate will have strong experience in the creation and executive of statewide giving campaigns and have raised well over 1M in pervious roles.

 

The role requires limited travel around the state and is based in Texas. Due to the nature of the work, evening and weekend events will often be required for the role.

 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the overall operation of the TRF and work to engage and empower board of trustees to deliver on approved goals and outcomes
  • Leadership over fundraising, grants & contracts and creating and executing strategy to achieve assigned goals
  • Provide appropriate and timely information to the Board of Trustees to make informed and effective decisions; serve as the liaison between the Board of Trustees and staff; partner with CEO for the recruitment and identification of new and diverse board members
  • Fundraise at the individual and corporate level. Create comprehensive fundraising plan, execute, and achieve annual fundraising goals
  • Provide oversight and management of the organization’s resources (human, material, financial) in accordance with the organization’s mission, values, and consistency with board policy
  • Partner with board of trustees to develop and achieve organization’s strategic plan, goals, objectives, and related policies. Lead the development and execution of highly effective marketing and communications strategies that resonate with the Texas restaurant industry and potential workforce demographic
  • Travel throughout the state to expand and drive program offerings such as ProStart, to execute fundraising plan and to build overall brand awareness through planned and focused efforts
  • Participate in key roles outside of the organization to gain further influence for TRF
  • Demonstrate a sense of priority in defining, undertaking, and completing projects; assuming responsibility and purpose, leading annual budgeting process and owning financial and programmatic outcome and results
  • Planning and execution of large fundraising events, including partnering with the events team to execute Lone Star Bash, an annual major fundraising event

 

Key Qualifications/Experiences/Attributes Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chosen field, MBA or other advanced education a plus
  • 10+ years of professional/leadership experience; Proven success in an externally facing leadership role, preferably in a nonprofit, philanthropic, or other mission-aligned organization
  • Understanding and experience achieving impact using philanthropic tools to affect change through policy/advocacy, influencing the field, and/or innovative grantmaking
  • Systems-level thinking and experience building and supporting public and private partnerships to achieve greater impact
  • Demonstrated successful experience the creation and execution of consumer and corporate fundraising campaigns. Track record of creating fundraising plan, executing, and achieving fundraising goals
  • Exceptional communication skills, including communicating in a compelling manner in a variety of settings
  • Exceptional ability to lead and inspire others is essential and required; experience should include working on senior leadership team and experience working with a Board of Directors /Trustees
  • Demonstrated success generating revenues and finding new revenue streams in a non-profit or foundation specific environment; proven grant writing/management experience is desirable
  • Collaborative, naturally seeks input and feedback, and actively listens; not afraid to address issues and conflict head on and with respect
  • A courageous and proven decision maker with the ability to set priorities, manage and implement them
  • Proven service/employee/constituent orientation with a high level of satisfaction combined with a business acumen
  • Politically savvy and able to communicate effectively with political leaders
  • An energetic self-starter, flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Experienced with utilizing and managing volunteers
