Description
Henry L Ferguson Museum seeks an Executive Director
The Henry L Ferguson Museum and Land Trust (HLFM/LT) is seeking to hire an Executive Director. The Museum is located on Fishers Island, NY, which is accessible from New London, CT.
The Executive Director (ED) will oversee the Museum’s growing programs, partnerships, and the new operations and administrative duties resulting from its growth.
The HLFM/LT has grown from one to seven employees and 14 summer interns within the last decade. The institution’s programming, conservation work, and community engagement have correspondingly expanded.
The HLFM/LT maintains permanent and temporary exhibitions devoted to the history of Fishers Island. It operates a Land Trust that protects approximately 400 acres, or about 15 percent of the Island. The Museum programs are wide-ranging and include lectures, children's nature programs, field ecology experiences, nature walks, field trips, research collaborations, land stewardship, habitat management, ecological field research, marine conservation work, and volunteer opportunities.
The ED will serve as the chief executive of the Museum and Land Trust, reporting directly to the Board. The ED will strengthen systems, staff structure, financial management, and organizational practices needed for sustainable growth. The ED will preserve the institution's mission, character, and valued community relationships. This position calls for a leader who can think strategically while managing a growing organization.
The HLFM seeks a person with organizational experience in mission-driven non-profits, who thrives on challenges, is curious, a community builder, with a sense of humor.
