Overview

Mount Zion Baptist Church Preservation Society is seeking a dynamic passionate nonprofit professional to fill the position of executive director, responsible for advancing the organization’s mission and vision. The position is an extraordinary opportunity for a professional skilled in fiscal management, fundraising and communication to lead an emerging, significant organization.

 

Historic Mount Zion Church, the last remaining Black owned & built historic building along the Southeastern Ohio River Valley’s Underground Railroad corridor will be restored and re-purposed as a regional Black artistic, cultural & economic hub.

 

MZBCPS mission is to preserve the Church as a community-wide asset and multi-use venue that recognizes the contributions, history, and ongoing concerns of Black Americans in Southeast Ohio, throughout the region and beyond.

 

Our vision is to become the welcoming meeting space it once was as well as an important hub in the study of Black experience in the Ohio River Valley, and a staging post for a heritage tourism exploring and celebrating the Black experience in Southeast Ohio.

 

Position Summary

 

The Executive Director leads the strategic, financial, and administrative functions of the organization. The Executive Director will work toward implementing the mission, purpose, vision, and strategy of MZBCPS. This is as salaried, part time position (30 hours per week) with benefits and reports to the MZBCPS board and president.

 

The ideal candidate must have experience leading a nonprofit or community-based organization include demonstrated fundraising and financial management skills, securing grants, building community networks and support, maintaining critical relations and collaborations with organizations, community, donors and the board of directors.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Operations and Administration

 

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of MZBCPS, including maintaining digital records and budgets.
  • Work with the accountant and finance committee to maintain detailed accurate financial documentation including compliance and regulatory documents.
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative partnership with the Board of Directors. Support operations and administration of Board of Directors and committees. Assist the Board with recruiting and retaining Board and committee members.
  • Ensure timely and effective communications the Board of Directors and with individual board members.
  • Assists in the process of developing annual goals and objectives for the organization.
  • Develop and implement an effective evaluation system for assessing program outcomes and measuring success.
  • Planning and executing events and programs.

 

Resource Development and Fundraising

 

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of MZBCPS) including submission to the board of an a proposed annual budget, monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Operate within the approved budget, assure maximum resource utilization and maintain a positive financial positions.
  • Expand and diversity revenue-generating and fundraising activities and sources to ensure sustainability of the organizations current and future structure and programs.
  • Explore approaches for securing statewide funding.
  • Develop and implement broad fundraising strategies for donations, grants and investment capital.
  • Coordinating grant applications, execution, and reporting to funders.
  • Develop gifts acceptance policies.
  • Responsible for donor stewardship and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Prepare organization for capital campaign including training, professional consultants, and execution.

 

Marketing and Public Relations

 

  • Develop and oversee strategic marking and communications.
  • Responsible for stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Develop and manage all written, social media and virtual messaging.
  • Manage strategic relationships with partners and community.
  • Serving as MZBCPS’s primary spokesperson.

 

Professional Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five or more years in nonprofit management
  • Budget management skills including preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
  • A passion and experience in resource development.
  • Proven expertise in financial management, budgeting, driving revenue and controlling expenses.
  • Ability to manage operations including supervising volunteers.
  • A thorough, organized and detail-oriented approach to work. Demonstrated verbal and written communication and interpersonal skill with experience in public speaking and the ability to communicate ‘s vision.
  • Knowledge and experience in grantwriting.

 

Position is part time (approximately 30 hours per week)

Pay range $35,000-$40,000

Benefits

Reports to Board of Directors through the Board President.
