ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

FareStart is a nonprofit organization in Seattle, Washington that transforms lives, disrupts poverty, and nourishes communities through food, life skills, and job training. We help people overcome employment barriers by teaching them work and life skills they need to succeed in the food-based jobs — and in life.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided millions of meals to organizations across the Seattle area that serve youth, adults, and families who are low income or experiencing food insecurity.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As the Director, People & Culture, you will provide leadership and guidance to the organization’s HR department and provide counsel and subject matter expertise to the organization’s leadership and management staff. You will be responsible for setting, enforcing, and evaluating legally compliant HR policies, procedures, and best practices, and is the project lead on all department lead projects with primary responsibility for successful outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow and operations of the department.
  • Supervises HR staff directly and indirectly to ensure department cohesion, legal compliance, and project completion
  • Lead the organizations total rewards strategy including planning and implementation
  • Provides oversight of discipline and termination process of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Manages the organizations talent acquisition process for management-level staff and building a pipeline of diverse candidates for key roles.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with leadership to identify ways to support FareStart’s mission through talent management.
  • Identifies key performance indicators for the organization’s human resources; assesses the organization’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.
  • Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee engagement programs.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the human resource team; assists with resolution of human resource, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues.
  • Ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
  • Drafts, implements, and manages the budget for the human resource department
  • Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 8+ years of human resource management experience required, with strategic, talent management, and/or employee relations experience highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or law degree highly preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is strongly preferred.
