This position is a an Exempt, Full-Time, 12-Month, Confidential appointment with an annual salary of $63,424.98.

The Director of the Child Development Center (CDC) oversees the successful operations of the program by providing clear vision and strong leadership that will allow the center increase access to higher education for Parkland students who are parenting, and high-quality childcare for Parkland employees and the community at large. The Director fosters a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment for students and families; provides direct supervision and leadership for the CDC staff, practicum students, student workers, volunteers, and children in the center; represents the CDC to professional organizations and in the community; facilitates family interaction; coordinates the daily operations of the CDC; and interfaces with Parkland College support services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the center; ensuring the center is fulfilling the goals set for its service to the campus community.
  • Responsible for selecting and scheduling qualified staff and substitute employees to provide developmentally appropriate lessons and a safe environment for participating children.
  • Initiating marketing, promotional activities, and events with the support of the college’s central marketing department to ensure healthy enrollment for the center.
  • Fostering relationships with prospective families; facilitating campus visits and responding to inquiries for information. 
  • Maintaining documentation for staff credentialing and licensure.
  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies such as the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Public Health Department, Fire Marshall, etc. to remain in compliance with required standards; work with state and federal agencies to secure funding; coordinate services with appropriate resource and referral agencies.
  • Establishing and overseeing an annual budget; coordinating billing and collection of fees with the business office.
  • Successfully manage the college’s Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant through the U.S. Department of Education. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to meet the general requirements for personnel as established by the State of Illinois DCFS, including sections 407.10 and 407.11 of the DCFS licensing standards.
  • Must pass a criminal background check as specified by DCFS and Parkland College.
  • Possess or obtain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certification and Public Health Food Sanitation License.
  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field with 21 semester hours of college credit in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Early Childhood Special Education 
      • OR
    • An Associate's Degree with 21 semester hours of college credit in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Early Childhood Special Education and 3 years experience in a child care setting.
  • Either a Gateways to Opportunity Level 1 Illinois Director Credential or 3 semester hours of college credit in administration, leadership, or management.
  • Proven success in a leadership position.
