Summary:

The Director of Government Funding will be responsible for leading efforts to pursue new government grants and contracts, as well as renew existing government grants and contracts, from federal, state, and local government sources. The Director will stay apprised of and assess the desirability of new public funding opportunities and will lead cross-functional teams to submit high-quality funding proposals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required with 5+ years of professional experience in grant writing and grants management roles in the non-profit sector. Familiarity with issues pertaining to homeless services, affordable housing, behavioral health and substance use disorders, and intimate partner violence is a plus. Other relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience conveying complex concepts in a clear, persuasive, and succinct manner.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and execute projects on schedule with minimal oversight, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work within tight deadlines as needed.
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with document sharing, maintaining document file systems, and navigating online submission processes and protocols.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with program budgets and the principles of program design, implementation, and evaluation.

Supervisory Role:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 

Principal Responsibilities:

The below enumerated principal responsibilities are inclusive of both program specific and firm-wide related administration, as applicable. 

  1. Monitor availability of government funding at the federal, state, local levels that offers a favorable return on investment and aligns with VOA-GNY’s strategic direction. 
  1. Develop a framework for assessing the desirability of public funding opportunities, accounting for factors such as ability to cover programmatic costs, alignment with strategic direction, revenue diversification goals, and duration of funding.
  1. Collaborate with a variety of internal stakeholders to coordinate submission of informed and persuasive proposals for public funding, as well as subsequent reports after funding is awarded, contributing to writing as needed.
  1. Advise staff across the organization on program design, implementation, and expansion in alignment with public funding opportunities, as well as compliance with grant and contract requirements.
  1. Ensure that internal stakeholders are communicating effectively with each other and with contracting public entities regarding programmatic and financial obligations.
  1. Perform other related duties as requested.

Expected Results of Principal Responsibilities: 

  1. Key internal stakeholders are kept apprised of public funding opportunities that align with VOA-GNY’s strategic direction in a timely manner. 
  1. A framework is developed to assess the desirability of public funding opportunities, which can be revised as priorities shift.
  1. Informed and persuasive public funding proposals are submitted as a result of the Director’s research and support.
  1. Public funding proposals and awards align with VOA-GNY’s desire and ability to expand service delivery.
  1. Related tasks are performed completely, on time, and accurately.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in an office environment performing administrative work.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to have visual acuity, talk and hear while communicating with peers and/or vendors. This position is sedentary and requires sitting for long period of times. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds.
