We're a mission-driven organization committed to reducing homelessness in Dane County by collaborating with the community to provide shelter, affordable housing and supportive services that eliminate barriers and empower the individuals and families we serve. The Director of Finance serves on Porchlight's leadership team and helps steer the organization along with the Executive Director and Board of Directors by providing business analysis, decision making support and insight. This position supports the financial growth and stability of the organization along with the day-to-day operations, which include general accounting, grant management, rental property accounting and payroll.

The ideal candidate will be a forward thinker and will have the unique opportunity to develop and restructure systems, processes and procedures as well as the roles of all staff in the Finance Department.  Porchlight has grown significantly in the past few years and looks to a bright future with further expansions of services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage accounting staff on accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, grant administration, payroll, budgeting, contract management and vendor relations and rules for non-profits
  2. Direct annual audit, 990 process and 1099 compliance; serving as the principal liaison to the external auditor
  3. Provide advice and counsel regarding financial issues and controls to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  4. Oversees organization general ledger and budget management functions, including preparation of the annual budget
  5. Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for review, (including explanations for variance analysis) and detailed cash flow analysis
  6. Provides financial analysis/modeling, decision making support and business insight to the Executive Director and Board of Directors to further Porchlight’s mission.
  7. Provides financial reports and analysis to external parties including, but not limited to, private and government funding sources.
  8. Serve as administrator for retirement plan
  9. Maintains compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and and tax laws
  10. Develops procedures and systems for use in ensuring financial control and availability of data for analysis
  1. Develop and implement efficient processes to reduce transactional costs.
  2. Oversees proper functioning of the overall financial area, with particular responsibility for grants management, rental property receivables, purchases and business administration
  3. Direct IT along with outside vendors to ensure a stable network, computers, phone systems and other needed security and operations equipment such as surveillance cameras
  4. Liaise with outside vendors such as ISP, phones, printers and other office equipment to troubleshoot outages and equipment breakdowns in a timely manner
  5. Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  2. 5+ years of experience working in Accounting, Finance or related field
  3. Experience in integrating IT systems
  4. Background in Non-Profit Management
  5. Robust analytical skills
  6. Excellent communication skills
  7. Leadership and management skills
  8. Strategic thinking
