Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI), and Community Engagement

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Engagement, the Director will create and maintain supportive relationships between the university and inclusive alumni societies connecting them through university experiential programs, as well as service, philanthropic, and volunteer opportunities.

The Director will work collaboratively with members of university advancement to pursue and promote the overall institutional goals related to alumni engagement, communications, and fundraising. Additionally, the Director will have a dotted line to the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for University Advancement to work in collaboration and develop annual operating plans that outline goals and strategies to increase involvement and participation by individuals from diverse constituencies in experiential programs and related activities.

In collaboration with the Director of Advancement Communications, the Director will create and implement targeted alumni communication efforts for alumni engagement programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership direction for the actions of the Virginia Tech Inclusive Alumni Societies (APIDA Alumni Society, Black Alumni Society, Ex Lapide Society for the LGBTQIA+ community, Latinx and Hispanic Alumni Society, and Native American and Indigenous Alumni Society) and other alumni advisory groups representing diverse alumni communities.
• Partner with and support Advancement Communications team on articles and other information related to diverse alumni engagement.
• Provide leadership in coordination with the Reunions and Homecoming team for planning large-scale on-campus events and activities to further inclusive practices to engage a more diverse representation of alumni.
• Partner with other Engagement Team colleagues to promote inclusive program strategy and alumni participation in planned events in the university community and with alumni chapter and regional engagement programs.
• Provide opportunities for networking, engagement, and mentoring between alumni and students from traditionally underrepresented and underserved backgrounds.
• Provide support and collaboration for college-specific programs offered by Advancement and participate in Alumni Association board and staff meetings (including engagement team and all-Advancement meetings).
