Location: Irvine, CA (office based)

The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) mission is to provide initial research funding to brilliant, investigative scientists with new ideas to cure arthritis and related autoimmune diseases. Since 1970, the Arthritis National Research Foundation has funded arthritis research to understand the causes, prevention and development of new treatments for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. The Arthritis National Research Foundation provides arthritis research grants to scientists at major universities and research institutes across America. One- and two-year arthritis research grants allow these newer scientists to develop their important research to a stage where it can be continued and further supported by other national agencies.

Position
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Development will spearhead development efforts. This position is responsible for the management of all of the fundraising activities of the organization which includes individual donor outreach programs, corporate sponsorships, major giving and planned giving.  The Director designs and implements strategies to increase corporate funding support through memberships, and sponsorships. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial style that can sell the value of a partnership with the ANRF.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

Corporate Partnerships:

  • Work with CEO to implement a national corporate partnership program, including comprehensive business plans, to meet annual revenue goals.
  • Oversee a portfolio of corporate partners and prospects, taking primary responsibility for cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and reporting.
  • Maintain regularly updated list of corporate funding opportunities.
  • Produce monthly reports and provide ongoing analysis of corporate engagement across the organization.
  • Prepare and forecast budgets as needed to ensure financial success
  • Propose and write corporate grant, sponsorship, and partnership proposals
  • Manage corporate partner recognition program
  • Oversee details for annual Corporate Roundtable and Corporate Reception
  • Promote the organization mission and seek funding from partners at relevant medical congresses and industry meetings.
  • Document all activity and contacts in CRM tracking database in an accurate and timely manner

 

Individual/Major Giving

  • Implement strategies for development plan execution focused on donor engagement at multiple levels: individual, major gifts, planned giving, workplace campaigns, combined Federated campaigns and state employees giving as well as social fundraising and peer to peer giving and targeted campaigns.
  • Manage all giving appeals, including emails, mailed letters, and digital strategy as well as the generation of acknowledgement letters, with support from administrative staff.
  • Manage leadership giving donors and prospects, with a focus on qualification, acquisition, and upgraded giving.
  • Proactively utilize best practices for reporting to assist with prospect research, assignment, donor profiles, and other departmental needs.
  • Collaborate to create brochures and other collateral materials to promote giving opportunities
  • Review donor trends; prepare reports to determine effective acquisition and stewardship strategies
  • Attend and cultivate donors and prospective donors at special events, develop programs to increase individual donor contributions.
  • Conduct some face-to-face cultivation and stewardship with donors, as well as constituents engaged in regional fundraising efforts.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree (required).
  • At least five years professional fundraising experience; fund development experience in health organizations is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of nonprofit fundraising requirements based on previous experience in a fundraising role at a nonprofit organization with a contribution budget of at least $2.5 million.
  • Annual fund expertise with direct mail, social media platforms.
  • Tech savvy, proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and CRM (knowledge of Salsa is a plus).
  • Demonstrated success in securing corporate sponsorships and establishing partnerships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to speak and to interact with a diverse group of individuals on arthritis research and patient experience.
  • Experience in overseeing budgets and grant writing
  • Highly organized, analytical, and possesses strong implementation/tactical skills
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial fashion where change is the norm and rapid decision making is required
  • Ability to be a strategic thinker and work with others in a collaborative or advisory role.

 

Other

  • Occasionally work evenings or weekend special events which may require travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Negotiable depending upon experience. ANRF provides generous health and vacation benefits and a flexible work environment.
