The Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) is an international professional association that promotes excellence and recognizes diversity in death education, care of the dying, grief counseling, and research in thanatology.

ADEC’s credentialing program provides a pathway for professionals working in the field of death, dying, loss, grief, and bereavement to be awarded the credentials of CT®: Certified in Thanatology and FT®: Fellow in Thanatology.

The credentialing program, under the umbrella of ADEC, is maintained and overseen by an autonomous Credentialing Council consisting of a large team of volunteers, elected and appointed, who work within operational committees and exam development committees. Credentialing Coordinator Position

  • Remote contract role
  • Hours vary week to week, month to month, based on ADEC’s needs for time-sensitive tasks; approximately 10-20 hours per week, totaling approximately 800 hours for the year
    • Some work  must be performed during ADEC office hours; other work can be performed outside of office hours
    • A more detailed description of tasks and monthly timeframes will be shared with candidates selected for ADEC's first round of interviews
  • Receives direction for tasks from the Credentialing Council (CC) Chair and Exam Development Coordinator
  • Reports to both ADEC’s Executive Director and the CC Chair twice a month via email (or virtually when necessary) to report on tasks performed and hours required to complete the tasks and to recommend ideas for more efficient processes

Job Description

  • Provides assistance, technical support, and coordination for the ADEC Credentialing Program
  • Works closely with the CC Chair and Exam Development Coordinator to assure a high-quality and efficiently executed credentialing program
  • Coordinates and schedules all virtual meetings related to credentialing
  • Attends a monthly 1 hour virtual meeting with the CC Chair for collaboration on planning, determining tasks, goals and expected achievements
  • Attends a monthly 1.5 hour virtual CC meeting to provide technical support as needed and to report on credentialing data when requested
  • Updates ADEC website credentialing information as directed by the CC Chair and in coordination with the ADEC Executive Director
  • Co-manages the credentialing@adec.org email along with CC Chair or designee
  • Responds to customer inquiries and refers customer requests as needed to CC Chair, specific CC Committee Chairs, or Executive Director as appropriate
  • Provides accurate data entry and management, including exporting of specified reports using ADEC’s Association Management Software (AMS), Learning Management System (LMS), and Credentialing Application Platform
  • Coordinates and manages the credentialing application, audit, and appeal processes within the timelines defined in the credentialing policies and procedures
  • Provides full technical support for the development and administration of the annual certification exam within the timelines defined in the exam policies and procedures (see specifics below)

    • Online Surveys - setup and reporting
    • Association Management Software (AMS) or Client Relations Management (CRM)
    • Learning Management Systems (LMS), like Moodle, Blackboard, etc.
    • Basic website management - Word Press or other
  • Demonstrates excellence in interpersonal communications with respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Exhibits excellence in verbal and written communications with strong editorial skills

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate Degree or equivalent certification
  • Minimum preferred: 2 years working in credentialing support position or related role
  • Experience working remotely with high-level customer service needs
  • Computer experience required, as detailed in Skills and Qualifications above
