Position Summary
The Coordinator of Camping Services oversees the summer camp staff, as well as the program staff. She implements programs for summer camp, as well as plans and organizes camp getaways/events during the year.
Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities
- Design, deliver, and evaluate camp programs that meet the needs/trends affecting girls; deliver programs and activities appropriate to each camper’s age groups
- Oversees camper registration; Assists with the development/implementation of marketing strategies to increase camper registration
- Analyze enrollment trends by evaluating enrollment percentage of current/past seasons, improving areas in need to increase camper registration, as well as retain past campers
- Conducts the daily operations of both day/overnight camp by maintaining food service orders for both campers/resident counselors, facilitates and assists with camper arrival/departure, assures compliance with ACA and local health department requirements, etc.
- Plans and conducts pre-camp training and orientation for summer camp staff; collects camper data (emergency contacts, designated camper release guardians, etc.). Provides all medical forms to health director
- Manages all summer camp staff; Conducts staff meetings as needed; notifies staff with any changes in schedules, laws, policies, etc.
- Assures that camper to counselor ratio is always maintained; verifies that staff has the appropriate certifications for their position
- Develops/maintains good communication and relationships with parents
- Manages troop camping weekends, including registration, staffing and volunteer training
- Plans and organizes camp getaways, as well as other council events for girls during summer camp’s off season
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years in experience in the childhood education field, as well as additional experience with programming and administrating summer camp programs for youth
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience
- Experience working in the summer camp or camping activities field preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in childhood education, STEM or environmental field preferred
- Strong computer skills; proficient in Office 365, One Drive, Microsoft, Excel, etc.
- Able to work flexible schedule, such as some evenings, weekends
- Capable of handling sensitive information confidentially
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Excellent organization/multitasking skills; manage deadlines.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
Valid driver’s license and own transportation; ability to travel within Suffolk County
Schedule
- M-F, 9-5. Must be flexible to accommodate program schedules.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
