JOB SUMMARY

 

  • The Communications Director will be responsible for overseeing the communications efforts of the Local Union, including public relations and marketing. Their duties include completing market research, communicating with media personnel to address the Local Union’s news, and implementing communication policies and procedures to uphold our Local Union’s brand image.

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.  This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

  • Maintain a database of media organizations and contacts within them.
  • Manage the Local Union’s social media communications.
  • represent the organization at press conferences, interviews etc.
  • Create and produce internal newsletters for the organization.
  • Develop both internal and external communication plans for members and various audiences.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with journalists in multiple type of media outlets.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Write, edit, and distribute various types of content, including material for the Local Union website, social media, press releases, marketing materials and other types of content that take the message to the public.
  • Analyze all media coverage of the organization and drafting appropriate responses.
  • Create and manage a PR plan, including budgets, timelines, etc.
  • Develop and implement public strategies for the Local Union’s activities and services we provide to our membership.
  • Organize and promote educational events such as the Local Union’s shop steward’s conferences, ABC programs, onboarding new members.
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent oral and written communication Skills
  • Leadership Skills
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the Associated Press style guide
  • Superior customer relationship management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Office Outlook, and membership databases. Knowledge of Apple software and operating system is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Ability to travel outside of state to attend conferences, trainings to improve current knowledge or develop new skills.
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • REQUIRED TO HAVE A VEHICLE AND A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE

Starting salary: ($70,000 per year plus great Union benefits)
