We are looking for a Chief Revenue and Growth Officer to join Lit and report to the Chief Executive Officer. This is the perfect role for someone who is a strategic, visionary leader who is excited to build the sales, development and operations functions of a successful and growing education services organization. As the Chief Revenue and Growth Officer, you will lead, build, and manage:

Business Development and Fundraising:

  • Design and manage Lit’s business development, marketing, sales, and fundraising functions, with ultimate accountability for all revenue-generating elements of Lit
  • Define and oversee the go-to-market strategy for both current and future business, including defining the sales and marketing strategies, identifying viable markets and market segments, and collaborating with the leader of the School Programs team on pricing, product structure, and the customer journey
  • Refine and lead the client acquisition and renewal process across all divisions resulting in meeting growth and revenue targets and 85% renewal rate
  • Manage the end-to-end revenue pipeline from generating leads, to leading business development, sales and development meetings, to pricing proposals, and closing deals, adjusting as necessary to create sustainable growth
  • Determine and lead the process to seek outside funding and facilitate the fundraising process

Visionary and Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and monitor strategic annual goals and operational systems to generate revenue and growth initiatives to become more efficient, focused, and sustainable
  • Develop the skills and monitor the progress of the Revenue, Development and Operations team
  • With the Executive Team, build Lit’s five-year growth plan to ensure we are growing strategically to fulfill our mission
  • Develop the needed growth strategies to expand current programs and build new business models
  • Work with the Executive Team to match partnerships to staffing

Operations and Organizational Administration:

  • Create new systems and processes that streamline operations across the company and create predictable rhythms for our team
  • Monitor operational processes through periodic systems-reviews, user feedback, and metrics to ensure that operations are healthy, efficient and effective
  • Oversee large, often cross-functional company projects to improve and innovate operations
  • Own and manage the financial planning and forecasting based on anticipated revenue and models of partnership portfolios

In short, you will ensure that Lit can meet our mission - every kid, everywhere is a reader - because we have both strong revenue and internal operations.

You are someone who has the following qualifications

You would be a great match for this role if you are a:

  • Professional with 10+ years of experience leading and/or growing  business development teams
  • Skilled and Proven Business Developer: You create exemplary long-term, high-profit business development functions. You have a proven track record creating the structures, systems and processes to grow revenue across sales, marketing, partnerships, new-product development, and fundraising. You are a skilled listener and use this to fully understand both the expressed needs and the underlying opportunities from each potential customer. Based on your in-depth knowledge of the programs, you match products to the customer needs and help the customer to understand why and how this will result in impact for their organization. You have deep financial acumen, an understanding of financial management, pricing strategy and strategic budgeting. You also are able to identify patterns across conversations with partners that you turn into important insights for the overall business development strategy. While you drive significant sales, partners would ultimately say that “customer service” is your middle name.
  • Visionary builder: You embody the unique ability to envision the bigger, strategic picture and create detailed project plans and roll-up your sleeves to realize your vision. Your vision for the future of an organization takes into account best-in-class benchmarks, an analysis of the overall market, and a SWOT analysis of the organization. You build with an eye towards sustainable systems over time, not just resolving today’s current pain points and prioritize using both quantitative and qualitative data to inform your decisions.
  • Team developer: You grow revenue, yes, but you also grow people and culture. You are thoughtful, planned and systematic in your people management. You develop the skills and mindsets of your own team and unify the larger organization to meet customer expectations. You get excited watching others develop their skills and apply their knowledge for the benefit of the organization.
  • It would be a plus if you had:
    • Understanding of financial forecasting and accounting
    • Technical experience with Customer Relationship Management platforms including FreshSales
    • Led long-term strategic planning functions for a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial organization
    • Experience leading IT and tech functions

You are someone who shares our values

  • Be cosmically urgent: You move with cosmic urgency--the vital urge to change things in a way that will benefit all people so everyone feels a sense of “somebodyness.”
  • Stay constantly curious:  You ask “how might we?” when solving challenges.
  • Pursue excellence over perfection: You prioritize individuals and the interactions that will move people to achieve outcomes over following a process that won’t get them there.
  • Do hard things in a human way: You choose courage over comfort by facing difficult tasks and conversations rather than avoiding them.
  • Invest in our collective success: You get your hands dirty; you will never say, “That’s not my job,” “That’s not my problem to solve,” or “I don’t care.”
