About the Role
This Associate Director position is responsible for providing guidance to jurisdictions across portfolios in strategies. The position utilizes reconciliation, legitimacy and focused deterrence methods to directly advise high profile and/or complex jurisdictions and coach other staff on their advising. This Associate Director works with the Director to guide, implement, and improve the core elements of NNSC’s Interventions across departments to innovate effective violence reduction and public safety outcomes while growing NNSC’s portfolios and ability to provide successful interventions.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Management:
- Support the Director of Reconciliation in strategic planning for the portfolio, including the expansion of the portfolio, ongoing innovations, and the healthy growth and development of the team
- Support ongoing evolution and refinement of the NNSC models through team-wide strategy sessions and collaboration with organizational leadership
- Broaden public relations and media outreach via verbal, written or in-person appearances to support NNSC public relations efforts; including serving as spokesperson at conferences and panel discussions on the work of NNSC
- Support the processes of hiring, onboarding, training, and developing of staff
Business Development
- Create, lead, source, and implement new partner/city relationships and services opportunities; project-based initiatives
- Develop strong relationships with the key players across the community. Assess and recommend opportunities to ensure alignment with NNSC strategy
- Partner with Director of Reconciliation to represent NNSC department portfolio to external actors, including donors, media, policy makers, community leaders, law enforcement, and academic partners; represent NNSC and at conferences, on panels, etc.
- Manage the timely preparation and submission of proposals for new and ongoing work; oversee contracts and manage the production of required grant reports
- Provide supervision on the timely preparation and submission of all required grant reports, including progress, quantitative, and qualitative performance, annual, and final reports
Communications:
- Provide direct strategic advising to a portfolio of high-profile partner cities in the implementation of the Violence Intervention/reduction through strategic advising calls, site visits, and online communication
- Engage in and lead substantive collaborative learning opportunities such as workshops, presentations, working sessions, and policy discussions, both internally and externally
- Ability to create and deliver presentations to a versatile cohort of NNSC partners; understand/deliver framework across multiple diverse audiences keeping both the detail and the larger context in view
Programming:
- Provide direct advising support to a small portfolio of high profile and/or complex cities
- Work with relevant partners to set manageable, goal-oriented agendas for meetings.
- Facilitating working sessions for the site-level professional development.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to establish metrics & quantitative measurements to monitor the trust-building and reconciliation activities of sites within the portfolio.
- Develop strategies for working with local law enforcement agencies to strengthen their community engagements.
- Partner with Director to develop and execute site-based data gathering exercises with frontline law enforcement personnel and city leadership to inform strategy design and implementation of new sites
- Collaborate and coordinate with NNSC cross-divisions for extended learning within the office and projects for partnership.
Financial Planning & Management:

- Grant development, including administration of grants and monthly/quarterly/annual reporting
- Contribute to the work plan and budget for NNSC Contracts
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Supervise a team (Associate and Advisors) who provide day-to-day strategic advising for all of the NNSC partner jurisdictions
Additional Responsibilities:

What You’ll Need
Experience Requirements

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, strategic advising, consulting, program development, or related fields:
- Effectively and efficiently, both independently and collaboratively with a team; and with an understanding of program design and evaluation,

- Demonstrated success in organizing and leading new projects in partnership with internal and external stakeholders;
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in supervising/managing staff:
- Experience working with staff in a programmatic and advisory capacity preferred,
- Acknowledge and application of self-care and work-life balance for self and others;
- Experience in establishing restorative justice programs including: Reconciliation, understanding of the inner workings of law enforcement, justice system, & legitimacy that provide profound thoughtfulness in partner communities;
- Expertise in developing and implementing successful violence prevention implementation tailored to the NNSC strategies, preferred;
- Work effectively with law enforcement agencies, communities, government officials, and service agencies; ability to forge alliances and facilitate cooperation between stakeholders across these disciplines to build coalitions among stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently; think and work collaboratively, take ownership of work, assess priorities, take initiative, and meet deadlines/department goals;
- Excellent interpersonal, consensus-building, organizational, communication and presentation skills;
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task across teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ZOOM, and Outlook.
Education Requirement
You must meet one of the items listed below:
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, International Relations, Public Policy, Public Health, Human Services, Sociology, Social Work, Policy, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or directly related field or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Advanced degree preferred;
- Possess a combination of education and experience that provide you with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or,
- Possess 10 years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Location and Travel Requirements:

- 40% or less - You may be expected to travel up to 40% for this position. (when safe to do so per COVID-19 & NNSC safety guidelines).
- This role will be remote. This role will involve some amount of in-person work with public safety partners in compliance with CDC and NNSC Travel Guidelines.
