Description

General Description: The Welcome Project runs several youth leaderships programs that focus on helping young people from immigrant families reach their full potential. Programs include Liaison Interpreter Program of Somerville (LIPS), College and Career Readiness program (CACR) and the Explore Summer and Culture Identity Program (Summer Camp). We are hiring a full-time Youth Programs Coordinator to start in June 2022. The position will be primarily in-person, with occasional opportunities for remote work. Staff may be asked to perform duties not listed in job description, but which are also considered to be essential to the employment position. This position is exempt from FLSA classification.

Reports to: Program Director, The Welcome Project

Job Goal: To provide high quality programs for youth from immigrant families to become more engaged in their communities.

Hours and Compensation: 40 hours per week; Compensation is $40,000-45,000 commensurate with experience; Health, dental and vision benefits included

Responsibilities:
● Oversee the LIPS program, College & Career Readiness Program and the Explore Summer and Culture
Identity Program through coordinating program activities such as outreach & recruitment, program registration, additional workshops etc.
● LIPS:
○ Coordinate with language interpretation trainers to provide interpretation trainings for bilingual youth
○ Provide additional programming to support the development of youth leadership skills
○ Provide individualized coaching and support to youth participating in the program to achieve their language interpretation goals
○ Supervise youth at community meetings when they are assisting with language interpretation
● CACR:
○ Supervise the College & Career Readiness Program Americorps Fellow and provide additional guidance as needed
● Summer Camp:
○ Supervise Summer interns in carrying out a summer enrichment programs for youth and provide additional guidance as needed
● Establish and maintain close relationships with various organizations in the area and city agencies to provide additional learning opportunities for the youth
● Participate in community meetings that relate to youth programming and serving immigrants
● Assist in recruiting and orienting new volunteers, providing with guidance as needed
● Maintain complete and accurate records of youth progress and evidence of growth through conducting regular assessments and evaluation
● Perform other duties, as may be required by the Executive Director

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree, or 4 years applicable work experience required
● Proficient in English; Priority given to candidates with verbal and written fluency in Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and/or Haitian Creole
● Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
● Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
● Previous experience working with youth from low-income, BIPOC or immigrant families preferred
● Previous experience with youth programs, particularly those focused on youth leadership development preferred
● Basic knowledge of language interpretation required
● Proficiency in technological tools such as Google Suite, Zoom and Microsoft Office
● Availability for some weeknights and weekend responsibilities required
