Description
The Territorial Web Developer develops, designs and supports The Salvation Army Central Territory (TSA) presence on the World Wide Web:
- Consults with officers and employees to develop web-based applications and website content management systems that provide a consistent high-quality web presence at all levels (territory, command, unit) throughout the territory.
- Works closely with other Territories, National Headquarters (NHQ) and International Headquarters (IHQ) to further develop internal web platforms (Symphony/Web Manager). Collaborates on development solutions that are implemented on a national scale.
- Establishes standards and best practices for Central Territory websites. Monitors divisional websites and makes recommendations to local staff as needed.
- Maintains a high level of expertise with the Global Directory of Services (GDOS) tool provided by IHQ and serves as the primary contact for technical support for divisions.
- Develops, brands and maintains Salvation Army program websites (www.SalArmyCentral.org) in established Content Management System (WordPress). Creates new branded themes as needed.
- Primary contact for technical website support for divisions. Works with web development partners to manage support projects and solutions.
- Manages site server and other (SQL database, etc.) migrations.
- Provides divisions with Symphony (content management system) training and develops online support and training tools. Maintains internal staff training website – SADigitalResources.org – which exists to further the learning of digital staff in the Central Territory.
- Implements analytics tracking and works with analytics software to create, monitor and report on website key performance indicators (KPI’s) throughout the territory. Supports divisions in local analysis.
- Maintains territorial domains and SSL certificates. Manages billing to divisions.
- Gathers content from a variety of sources – including the republishing of divisional content – for the primary territorial web site (www.centralusa.salvationarmy.org).
- Maintains the home page hero image on the primary territorial website, with regular rotation of featured content.
- Performs website editorial activities, including researching and updating information that enhances the value of the site.
- Provides support for online donation activities within the territory.
- Develops familiarity with data management applications and CRM tools, as necessary to support integrations.
- Monitors web user form submissions and responds in a timely manner.
- Promotes, upholds and protects brand guidelines and content standards across all Central Territory web presences.
May consider position being remote or a hybrid of in office and remote.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent course of study involving in-depth experience in HTML, CSS, JS and Adobe Creative Cloud software.
Experience:
- Minimum five years of website development experience, demonstrated through a portfolio of representative work.
- Working knowledge of fundraising in context of web communications, or related experience.
- Google Analytics certification a plus.
Additional skills:
- In-depth knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Experience/expertise with web design tools (Dreamweaver, MAMP, sublime, Codekit, Browser Stack, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of relevant, external Content Managing Systems, such as WordPress (WP), and the ability to manipulate open source files for Salvation Army use (knowledge in WP templating and editing/manipulating SQL databases).
- Ability to learn emerging, relevant development platforms.
