Description

Who we are:

The Adirondack Experience (ADKX) in Blue Mountain Lake, which opened its doors in 1957, is one of upstate New York’s premier cultural institutions

Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and cozy small towns, the ADKX offers something for everyone who enjoys the serenity of the Adirondack Park. The museum is nestled right in the heart of the Adirondacks, and year-round outdoor recreation opportunities start right on our campus.

The ADKX is a seasonal museum open from Memorial Day weekend through Indigenous People’s Day with a year-round crew of about 30 employees who keep things running 365 days a year.

We are looking for an enthusiast and energetic individual to take on the full-time/year-round role of School Programs Educator in our Interpretation Department. We offer a very generous benefit package which includes paid time off, occasional telework, health, dental, and supplemental insurances and employer-provided 403b contributions.

Position:

Under the supervision of the School Programs Manager, the Educator position encompasses the presentation and support of programs that interpret the museum’s exhibits and collections for school audiences and the general public. Working with a dynamic team in a beautiful setting, the position offers a unique opportunity to teach and learn in an incomparable setting and to develop a foundational level of experience in the field of museum education. This position is for an emerging professional.

Qualifications:

This position requires an energetic individual with the natural ability to lead presentations, virtually and in person, for K-12 students and mixed audience groups. An ideal candidate has a passion for history and a natural talent to communicate knowledge in an engaging way. The Educator position works closely with the entire Interpretation team developing and evaluating program materials for presentations and web content. The position requires the ability to travel to presentation sites, adhere to museum and school safety guidelines and protocols, and to comprehend and troubleshoot digital learning procedures. Candidate must be punctual and reliable; excellent time management, problem solving, and social skills are essential. Teaching experience preferred, and/or experience leading youth programs, and/or best practices in museum education. Knowledge of New York State curriculum standards, history and culture; and familiarity with Indigenous communities in the Northeast preferred. The museum especially welcomes applicants from the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Field of Study: Education; History; Performing Arts; Museum Studies; or Communication preferred.
  • Experience: One to two years related experience
  • Other requirements: Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel

Salary Range: $36,000 - $40,000
