Job Title: Paraprofessional, Benhaven School

Salary: School $17.25/ hour; increase to $17.51/hour upon completion of 3 month probationary period and $19.16 around 1 year with successful demonstration of competencies

Location: Wallingford

Hours: Monday-Friday 9:20am-4:20pm

Reports To:  Director

Purpose of Position

These are a full-time 35 hour a week non-exempt positions. Reports to the Director of the program. A great candidate must be motivated and have the ability to work with students with autism spectrum disorder and other intellectual disorders.

Responsibilities:

The following duties are assigned to this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Encourage building skills for independence
  • Work with students on the autism spectrum and with intellectual disabilities
  • Encourage and assist in increasing socialization
  • Encourage and assist individuals with the pursuit of vocational opportunities
  • Assist and provide opportunities for individuals to participate in recreational activities

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • School: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • All applicants must consent to DCF/DDS background check, state and federal criminal background checks.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus, but will train the right candidate.
