The Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC) Camp Keff has been providing outstanding summer, winter and spring programs for preschoolers from age 2yrs – 5yrs for decades. We provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can play and grow. Hundreds of campers attend our programs each year! Our preschool camp programs include swimming, arts, cooking, Jewish culture, and other special activities.

The Preschool Camp Counselor is an integral member of our camp staff. Under the direction of the Preschool Associate Director and Preschool Camp Administration, the Preschool Camp Counselor works in collaboration with Lead Camp Counselor to ensure that each child feels welcome, safe, and loved at camp through their daily interactions with children under their care. Preschool Summer Camp Counselors have a special opportunity to make an impact in the life of a child while developing valuable professional skills and program planning experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Uphold the mission and values of the PJCC and Camp Keff programming by demonstrating our mission statement: We provide an environment where campers, families and staff members develop and maintain friendships, grow through creative and developmentally appropriate activities, increase self-confidence and have a positive association with Jewish culture.
  • Commit to building a welcoming, safe, and engaging child-focused community.
  • Responsible for ensuring the emotional and physical safety of all children in your care.
  • Lead a group of preschool children to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences.
  • Support community and relationship building by being responsive to family needs and through communicating with them daily about their camper’s experience.
  • Work under the support and guidance of Lead Camp Counselor and Preschool Camp Management to ensure program operates smoothly.
  • Demonstrate positive communication and conflict resolution strategies which may include: communicating with parents and fellow camp staff, modeling and guiding healthy and developmentally appropriate conflict resolution strategies between children.
  • Implementing of a variety of activities for campers including, curriculum, outdoor and indoor play and lessons, and swim. Some planning may be required.
  • Ensure curriculum is delivered to campers as part of their camp day.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment and culture through effectively collaborating with other staff and camp management.
  • Facilitate daily setup and cleanup of camp classroom and shared spaces and assist with lesson preparation.
  • Document camper experience through photographs and camper updates to be shared with families in our online community.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, run or crawl. Inside and outside work with exposure to heat.

Camp Hours: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with an extended option of 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday – Friday, June 20, 2021 – July 28, 2023

    • Staff work full-time or part-time schedules between the hours of 7:30am – 6:15pm.

June 12, 2023 for new hire orientation, June 13-15, 2023 for all staff Camp Training.

Salary Range: $20.57-22.41 per hour depending upon experience.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or age 18.
  • Must possess 12 ECE units or currently employed as a PJCC Preschool Associate or Assistant Teacher in process of completing 12 core ECE units. Demonstrated Preschool Camp Keff experience acceptable.
  • Experience working with young children 0 to 5 years old.
  • Passionate about working with children and creating powerful experiences in a camp setting
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture a plus
  • Experience working in a camp setting a plus.
