Position Title:​ Political Director

Location:​ Remote- DC Metro Area

Annual Pay Range:​ $110,000-$130,000

Classification: Full-time; Exempt

 

The Child Care For Every Family Network and Child Care for Every Family Action bring together the people directly involved in and impacted by child care—parents, providers, and advocates—to build a racial and gender justice-centered child care infrastructure that is accountable to those who have been most harmed by our lack of investment and currently underfunded programs. We are convening families, organizations, and providers across localities, states, and the nation to develop shared strategies to fundamentally transform child care.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Political Director plays an integral role for the Child Care for Every Family Network and Child Care for Every Family Action by working with state and national organizers, leaders and campaign leads to develop robust and coordinated plans to win transformative investments in child care at the federal level. Reporting to the Co-Director, they assist with supporting federal campaign planning (and other work groups) and implementing key strategies; coordinating our government affairs work; supporting the development and implementation of policy principles; supporting state partner engagement in federal work; representing the Network in various in person and virtual federal coordinating bodies and events, ensuring strong collaboration and communication across the Network’s leaders and programs, etc. This is a senior role and requires a strong background in political and legislative work with a focus on advancing racial, gender and economic justice.

 

The individual holding this position may also work part-time for a coordinated project, Child Care for Every Family Action, in Sixteen Thirty Fund, a 501(c)(4) organization, under a resource sharing agreement between New Venture Fund and Sixteen Thirty Fund. The responsibilities under that position will be overseen by Sixteen Thirty Fund.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

 

  • Provide staffing support to network leadership, work groups and constituency groups as assigned; with a focus on implementation of our federal strategy
  • Support network-wide equity, inclusion and belonging workHelp to drive network federal campaign planning efforts with state and national partners and leaders
  • Manage Network’s federal advocacy efforts and ongoing coordination among partners
  • Support and coordinate Network-wide lobby efforts and manage our lobbyist’s efforts
  • Support state partners in developing and implementing federal power-building goals
  • Support the Network’s development of policy principles for child care and related tools
  • Maintain a regular presence and representation of the Network in Washington, D.C. at various national meetings and events in person and virtually, as requested
  • Support growing the network and engagement of members, allies and supporters; including developing ways to share relevant information as needed
  • Support collaboration with other networks and partners within and across movements
  • Identify opportunities for the network to grow its work and impact
  • Work closely with other network staff and work group leads to inform their work
  • Develop network-wide actions focused on building collective power
  • Support measuring network progress, data collection and reporting

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

 

  • Commitment to Child Care for Every Family Network’s mission and values
  • Commitment to personal anti-racism work
  • Experience with, and preference for, working in a racially and culturally-diverse environment with people of all abilities and backgrounds
  • 5+ years experience in national issue campaigns and/or federal advocacy, ideally with a focus on child care or other related racial/gender/economic justice issues
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with and between national and state organizations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing on cross-partner strategies achieve bold objectives
  • Experience leading, coaching, and supervising a team of strong, justice-focused advocates
  • Be able to develop new leaders and build community
  • Have excellent time and project management skills
  • Is able to work independently and within a collaborative and interdependent team environment
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Have strong computer skills, including, Microsoft Office, Google programs, video conferencing technology and CRM platforms
  • Able to work from home with a fully remote team; but be based in the DC Metro Area

VALUED AND NON-ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Fluency in Spanish or another language

Compensation and Benefits

 

Salary range: $110,000-130,000

Benefits: Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 200 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
