**Due to COVID-19 this role is currently working primarily remotely. Once FareStart’s office fully reopens, this role will have regular onsite responsibilities in downtown Seattle. **

FareStart is a nonprofit organization in Seattle, Washington that transforms lives, disrupts poverty, and nourishes communities through food, life skills, and job training. We help people overcome employment barriers by teaching them work and life skills they need to succeed in the food-based jobs – and in life.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided millions of meals to organizations across the Seattle area that serve youth, adults and families who are low income or food insecurity.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As an Outreach Specialist, you are responsible for the planning and oversight of outreach strategies to meet enrollment and retention goals of the organization. You will build relationships with community partners that support underserved communities to create a pipeline of students for our adult programs. You will also support applicant intake process including applicant assessments, drug screening, and background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and oversee annual outreach strategy and plan
  • Promotes the mission of FareStart to build and foster partnerships that support enrolling individuals that are furthest from opportunity
  • Presents FareStart training programs to community partners and potential students with a focus on historically under-represented individuals
  • Maintains a calendar of outreach activities including community events, presentations, and other activities
  • Supports applicant intake process including applicant interviews, assessments, drug screenings, background checks, referrals and data entry as needed.
  • Ensures all outreach activities are accurately entered in FareStart's database
  • Collaborates with other programs staff to provide student information to support student success
  • Develops reports outlining outreach activities, outcomes of outreach, applicants, and enrollment
  • Travels to multiple partner outreach locations on a weekly basis using public or FareStart provided transportation.  May include occasional travel to other parts of the state
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with historically underserved populations
  • Experience in community outreach or other relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, active listening, compassion, positivity, and patience to build authentic relationships
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing key partners and relationships with organizations that serve historically underrepresented individuals
  • Highly organized; able to juggle multiple priorities at one time
  • Comfortable in creating and facilitating large group presentations
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft suite software
  • Demonstrates a high level of emotional maturity and ability to always maintain professional boundaries
