POSITION OVERVIEW

This position will play a key role providing quality vision care in our fast-growing primary care facility. The prime focus will be performing comprehensive eye and vision tests, diagnosing defects of the eye, such as myopia, astigmatism and glaucoma, prescribing medications, eyeglasses and contact lenses. Carrying out the treatment plan in a competent and efficient manner is then expected. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our thriving organization and provide quality care to those most in need. Each optometrist is expected to see approximately 15 - 18 patients per day.

Beacon Christian Community Health Center is an FQHC providing comprehensive primary and preventative health care services to our growing patient population. Our rapidly growing center currently offers services that include: internal and family medicine, pediatrics, ob/gyn, nutrition, behavioral health, and spiritual care. RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS

  • Perform comprehensive eye and vision tests
  • Diagnose defects of the eye, such as myopia, astigmatism and glaucoma
  • Provide personalized temporary and permanent solutions to sight issues based on each patient’s specific case and medical history
  • Prescribe medications, eyeglasses and contact lenses
  • Advise patients on proper eye care techniques
  • Keep updated and accurate medical records for all patients
  • Book next appointments in cases where re-examination is required
  • Train patients on how to use and maintain their contact lenses
  • Refer eye doctors and ophthalmologists when patients need to undergo a surgery or in cases of severe eye injuries
  • Attend medical/dental staff meetings and participate in case study discussions
  • Provide professional consultation to other clinical staff members when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer/Practice Manager
  • Participate in required in-service trainings as per state and federal requirements
  • Any other related functions to the above
  • Agree to and abide by the Guiding Principles and Mission Statement for the health center.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • An interest in treating less fortunate, needy patients.
  • Graduate from an accredited Optometry school with OD degree and board certified
  • A valid New York State optometry license
  • At least 2 years of experience as an Optometrist
  • CPR certification
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (athenahealth) preferred but not required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly recommended.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment; and
  • TB clearance, to be renewed every year.
  • Annual and pre-employment physical

Salary:  $125,000 - $140,000
