Description
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Controller for a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on impactful community programs. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity based in Burlingame, CA.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Nonprofit Controller will provide high-impact financial leadership across the organization's finance and administration functions. This hands-on leadership role will oversee full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and multiple administrative functions while partnering closely with executive leadership and the board. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit finance expertise, excellent financial analysis and communication skills, and the ability to balance strategic leadership with day-to-day execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead full-cycle accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Oversee Finance, Purchasing, IT, and HR functions while providing hands-on leadership to multiple direct reports.
- Prepare and communicate financial reports, analysis, and recommendations to executive leadership and board stakeholders.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and ongoing financial planning activities.
- Assess financial systems, reporting processes, and team workflows and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide strategic and operational financial leadership while ensuring the organization's day-to-day finance functions remain accurate and timely.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated nonprofit finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Strong expertise overseeing full-cycle accounting and financial operations.
- Experience preparing and presenting financial information to executive leadership and/or board stakeholders.
- Hands-on leadership style with strong financial analysis, strategic thinking, and executive communication skills.
- Experience with financial and payroll systems such as Blackbaud Financial Edge, ABRA, ADP, and Microsoft Office; CPA preferred.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This full-time opportunity offers a salary range of $127,000–$164,000 annually, depending on experience, along with an excellent benefits package. This is an onsite position based in Burlingame, CA, with a 40-hour workweek.
