Make the Road States (MRstates) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella.

Make the Road New York builds the power of Latino and working-class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services.  Make the Road NY operates neighborhood-based community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island, Brentwood, Long Island and White Plains, Westchester. With a membership of more than 25,000 low-income New Yorkers, Make the Road tackles the critical issues facing our community: workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights, language-access, LGBTQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform.

Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.

Current Opening:

Make the Road States is looking for a passionate and people driven Human Resources Benefit Manager to join our team who serves an umbrella of organizations in a multistate infrastructure with more than 300 employees in total; the Human Resources Department is a fast pace team oriented work environment.  The HR Benefit Manager reports to the National Director of Human Resources and contributes in helping to ensure that the HR Department builds a diverse and supportive work environment where employees feel that their needs are attended to in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

Benefit Management: 

  • In collaboration with HR Director, manage relationship  with brokers and benefit carriers
  • Manage medical, dental, vision benefits
  • Manage all STD, LTD and DBL for all states
  • Manage all Paid Family Leave benefits
  • Manage all ADA requests
  • Manage all COVID-19 inquiries and reportings
  • Responsible for ACA Reporting
  • Responsible for managing all Parental Leaves
  • Manage ADP benefit dashboard
  • Calculate benefit eligibility based on employment status
  • In preparation for open enrollment recommend benefits programs to Executive Team and Human Resources Director; this includes cost analysis and impacts
  • Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislations and determines how it translates to the day to day operations of benefit  management
  • Resolves employee questions and problems by interpreting benefit policies and  procedures
  • Reconcile benefits accounts by approving billing statements and attend to any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Train employees on how to manage their benefit selections on the organization HRIS
  • Responsible for other human resources special projects as needed

  • Member of the organization DEI Committee
  • Collaborate with finance on any payroll/benefit related task
  • Manage salary levels: Mid and Senior
  • Responsible for special projects as needed

Requirements:

  • Eligible to work in the U.S
  • Required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Bilingual – Spanish, preferred
  • 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in benefit administration/management
  • Knowledge on labor laws related to FMLA, PFL; ADA; ACA; COBRA is a plusAdvance knowledge and understanding of employee benefits administration.
  • Proven experience in working with HRIS, preferably ADP
  • 2 to 3 years of experience managing a benefit dashboard

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically-elected personnel committee and will depend on factors such as experience and education. MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $73,122 to $85,122.
