EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 

Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) 

Warner College of Natural Resources, Colorado State University 

 

POSITION:  

CEMML seeks an experienced, savvy, and dynamic Executive Director for our fast-paced, interdisciplinary scientific/technical organization. This key role leads a large unit with international reach that is renowned for its expertise in environmental management. The Executive Director oversees a high-performing, innovative team of interdisciplinary experts, and supports the military mission while contributing to conservation of the nation’s most biologically diverse and culturally rich federal lands. As the public face of CEMML, the Executive Director will advance and promote its mission and long-range vision. Working in partnership with the Executive Committee (EC), they will create and implement strategic goals for the organization and plan for its long-term sustainability.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required: (1) Master’s degree; (2) 10 total years of relevant professional experience; (3) At least 5 years of managing a large, interdisciplinary team of environmental specialists, to include natural resources and/or cultural resources professionals and project managers; (4) Demonstrated experience providing opportunities for mentoring and staff development; (5) Record of developing and managing large, complex, multi-year budgets; (6) Demonstrated ability to set and achieve strategic goals and objectives; (7) Ability to demonstrate effective leadership within a team setting; (8) Excellent oral and written communication skills; (9) Proficiency with standard business technologies and tools. 

Preferred: (1) PhD, MBA, or J.D.; (2) Familiarity with relevant federal natural and/or cultural resource legislation and policies; (3) Experience working in an academic environment; (4) Professional experience or post-graduate certificate in managing grants and cooperative agreements, or prior experience as a Contracting Officer's Technical Representative; (5) Project management training or certification; (6) Experience briefing high-level officials; (7) Knowledge of Department of Defense policies and processes related to natural resource or cultural resource management; (8) Record of obtaining, administering, and executing grants and cooperative agreements with federal agencies; (9)Experience in fostering an organizational culture of trust and collaboration. 

PROPOSED SALARY: $180,000 to $220,000 (12 month)
