Do you love saving animals, working in a team environment, partnering with community stakeholders, and improving animal welfare?

The Humane Society of North Central Florida is seeking an Executive Director to lead our organization into new community initiatives, growing and maintaining relationships with animal welfare partners at the regional and state level, creating a larger impact area for the animals and people we support.   

WHO WE ARE

The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. Our organization has been building relationships and supporting rural county organizations for several years and these efforts have been met with great success and appreciation in other communities. We’re looking to expand those relationships even further.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the same or related position or with a focus on fund development in a nonprofit setting. Record of continually increasing responsibilities with measurable results
  • Minimum five years’ experience of successful team management and talent building
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in strategic visioning, planning services/programs, and execution
  • Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors; partnering organizations and government agencies.
  • Passion for animal welfare and the mission set forth by HSNCF
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to be covered by HSNCF insurance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively and independently with minimum supervision
  • Participatory leadership style and experience with a skilled and effective management team and understanding of HR practices
  • Capacity to be a strong representative and advocate in local, regional, and state-level animal welfare, nonprofit, business, and public policy forums and to build relationships with other animal care organizations and community partners
  • An understanding of compliance issues involving pertinent federal, state, and local regulations
  • Understanding of HR and financial acumen including budget development and managing/reporting against budgets

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE

  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) or Program Management Professional (PgMP®) certification
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE)
  • Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP)
  • Training and experience in creating diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace environment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be available and willing to work such weekends, holidays, overtime, and attend mandatory training and meetings as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs
  • May be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast paced and changing workload which at times can be stressful
  • By nature of the job, there is occasional exposure with dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and infectious diseases
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to be covered by HSNCF insurance.
