Mission

Our Mission is to provide young adults a bridge to the skilled trades through basic training, on the job experience and the creation of a career path that will enable transition to the middle class.

 

Description

The Master’s Apprentice is a new faith based social enterprise created to connect industries in need of qualified apprentices, foundations working to reduce dependence on social programs and young men searching for an opportunity to succeed. The Master’s Apprentice is unique in providing the bridge over the opportunity divide between the young adults stuck in low-paying jobs and the growing need for apprentices in the skilled trades that will provide a sustainable future for them and economic growth for our country. The program is a competency based educational program that teaches young adults from low income neighborhoods the basic skills and knowledge needed to meet the minimum standards of acceptance by employers. These include the soft skills of the workplace, construction math, personal finance, cultural awareness and resume/interview skills.  The students also have practical on the job experience as pre-apprentices building and producing simple projects in our workshop lab.

 

Overview

The Executive Director must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ and support the ministry’s Statement of Faith. The Director must be a creative entrepreneurial self-starter to lead the non-profit to the next level in developing sustainable income, increasing corporate and community partnerships and continuously improving the pre-apprentice educational program to meet or exceed industry standards for the skilled trades. The ideal candidate will create the organizations vision and strategic plan with the ability to lead there. The Director will be responsible for the management of all staff, programs, volunteers, grants, foundation and donor development, creating and meeting budget, recruiting students and building relationships with potential employers.

 

 

The Program

The Master’s Apprentice finds the “hidden gems” of the overlooked workforce and in 6 weeks transforms them into qualified apprentice candidates, then connecting them with respected construction companies to begin a career in the skilled trades. The program is a competency based, experiential educational program teaching the basic skills and knowledge needed to meet the minimum entry requirements on the path to Journeyman. The curriculum includes: Work Ethics, construction math, personal finance, career planning and resume/interview skills.  The students receive hands-on experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC and masonry labs and fieldtrips to live job sites. The program is tuition-free that also provides students a weekly incentive stipend to attend. Cohorts attend the course with a goal of being hired to begin their apprenticeships in their chosen fields upon graduation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build partnerships between industry, business & trades organizations and apprenticeship programs for placement of students and scholarship support
  • Create alliances with Churches, community and Faith-based organizations to recruit students and volunteers
  • Establish a fundraising strategy and donor development activity to implement the strategies to raise scholarship support to meet the annual budget and working towards sustainability of the program.
  • Build on existing and expand the social, earned and paid media campaign to build brand and consistent messaging to meet the needs of continuous recruitment of students, volunteers, donors and corporate partners.
  • Support the Program Manager to train and manage volunteers to deliver curriculum and mentoring of students
  • Prudently develop and manage the organization’s resources within budget and provide timely reports to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness in all aspects on a regular basis and implement continuous improvements
  • Work in collaboration with the various construction membership organizations such as the Association of General Contractors, Colorado Contractors Association and the Hispanic Contractors to build a network of companies focused on Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Masonry and Carpentry trades.
  • While adding new companies, continue to strengthen and expand on the current network of established partnerships to leverage goodwill for introductions to other companies in need.
  • Work with the Board of Directors and staff to create, plan and execute 3-4 hosted events to raise awareness and attract new donors while recognizing corporate partners of the Master’s Apprentice.
  • Assist the Director of Programs in scheduling field trips, guest speakers and mock interviews with our Corporate partners.
  • Become knowledgeable of all curriculum and be able to serve as substitute teacher for classes if volunteer coaches are unavailable.
  • Attend and lead each graduation ceremony in support of the students, their families and our corporate partners.
  • Coordinate and participate in job fairs, community and industry events where the targeted companies are in search of apprentice candidates to expand our network.
  • Make presentations at organizations and events to attract potential companies.
  • Coordinate communications with corporate partners, including quarterly digital newsletters.
  • Oversee the maintenance of database to assure accurate files on all corporate partners, including contact information for executives and HR managers along with student and volunteer records.
  • Help advice and support staff for placed graduates in support of their initial steps of apprenticeship upon placement with a company. Help to develop and grow a 3-way system of support between the Master’s Apprentice, the Company and the new apprentice.
  • Other Duties as assigned

 

Personal Qualifications

  • The Executive Director shall be a committed follower of Jesus Christ. This relationship will be manifested by a personal working knowledge of the Scripture, an active prayer life, a humble spirit and by belonging to a local church where there is accountability. As a faith-based program the candidate must support the ministry’s statement of faith.
  • Type “A”, outgoing personality, love people, excellent social networking skills
  • A passionate and committed belief that youth can rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles and successfully begin a career. Have a drive for developing a diverse workforce
  • Ability to consistently follow through with an independent, organized and self-motivated work style

Qualifications

  • Degree in education, business, non-profit management or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient and knowledgeable in working with technology, Microsoft office and social media
  • Experience in or knowledge of the various construction trades, candidate with a current network of industry contacts is preferred.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged youth and low-income populations.
  • Background experience utilizing social media as a tool for networking

 

Experience

  • Experience in successfully leading an organization to new growth through the development and implementation of a creative strategic plan
  • Experience in managing and motiving staff to meet expectations
  • Proven ability and experience in fundraising, donor development and grant writing
  • Experience working with at-risk youth population and urban faith based organizations
  • Experience with the construction or manufacturing industry and related trades
  • Previous administrative experience is preferred
  • Experience in secondary instruction is preferred
