Organizational Overview:

NMCAN is a dynamic organization that collaborates with young people to build community, promote equity, and drive positive change. We strive to create new narratives, practices, and policies that support community-centered care for youth and families in New Mexico. Committed to addressing and eliminating racial and ethnic inequities in systems affecting young people and families, we value authentic youth engagement, building community, and promoting race equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Overall Job Description:

The Enrichment Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of NMCAN's programs, with a specific focus on engaging young individuals who have been impacted by foster care, juvenile justice, and/or homelessness. Working closely with the NMCAN team, the coordinator ensures the seamless coordination of program opportunities in alignment with the organization's mission and values. These values encompass authentic youth engagement, community building, equitable practices promoting race equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as strengths-based approaches.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

The Enrichment Coordinator collaborates with NMCAN staff to collectively support young individuals, volunteers, and community partners. Key responsibilities and duties include:

Program Coordination:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of programming, including development, implementation, assessment, and refinement.
  • Cultivate relationships across diverse communities, connecting young people to relevant resources and opportunities related to housing, education, employment, financial capability, health/mental health, social capital, and permanence, with consideration for their cultures and identities.

Engagement:

  • Conduct outreach efforts to engage young people with lived experiences in foster care, juvenile justice, or homelessness, encouraging their participation in programming.
  • Coordinate the referral and initial engagement process, including conducting information sessions and intakes with young people.
  • Facilitate training sessions for young people on various topics such as leadership development, cultural and personal identity, supportive relationships and community connections, finances, and parenting. Collaborate with community experts, including NMCAN Youth Leaders, to lead training sessions.
  • Support and train financial coaches to assist young people in navigating and accessing community resources.
  • Foster skill-building among young people, focusing on areas such as communication, navigating professional spaces, critical thinking, identity development, advocacy, and social capital/community building.

Leadership Support and Collaboration:

  • Provide leadership support, guidance, and coaching to young people engaged in programming, including emotional and moral support. Arrange and provide transportation as necessary for organizational needs.
  • Promote a collaborative climate among all NMCAN programs.

By empowering young people and providing them with the tools and knowledge they need, the coordinator will actively contribute to NMCAN's mission of driving radical change, promoting equity, and building more just and supportive systems.
  • It's important to note that while the Enrichment Coordinator will have the opportunity to engage in advocacy and policy support, the primary focus of this role is to coordinate and facilitate NMCAN's programs and support young people.
