Description

Join our team as the Director of Shelter & Community Services and help us create a community where people find hope and discover possibility. At the Upper Valley Haven, we are committed to delivering essential human services to the people of the Upper Valley – we are large enough to make a difference while creating a warm, human experience for all we serve.

The Upper Valley Haven is a private nonprofit that provides support and assistance to community members struggling with poverty in Vermont and New Hampshire. We meet people where they are, address immediate needs through food and shelter, and offer longer-term solutions that foster independence and housing stability. Everyone deserves to have their basic needs met and a community is stronger when we offer a hand up to our most vulnerable neighbors.

Overview

As our Director of Shelter & Community Services, reporting to the Executive Director, and as a member of the Upper Valley Haven's Leadership team, you will have responsibility for all program planning, operations, and staffing of our adult and family shelters, supportive housing services, community outreach services, children’s services and future expansion projects.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage a comprehensive array of services and programs such as the haven adult and family shelters, supported housing case management, community outreach, landlord liaison, and after school  and summer children's programs.
  • Lead three direct reports—Adult Program Manager/Family Program Manager, and Landlord Liaison—and 30 indirect employees.
  • Review services being offered and develop new programs as needs emerge.
  • Be active in advocacy with local and statewide organizations concerned with homelessness and supported housing. Lead our public response to critical issues of concern to our mission.
  • Ensure our services comply with all federal, state, funding, and city regulations, certifications, and grant and licensing requirements.
  • This position requires on-call coverage once every five weeks for after-hour calls from shelter staff for emergency/urgent matters.

Staff are encouraged to participate in staff-led committees to identify and advance organizational initiatives. We are a dog-friendly workplace.

Compensation

This is a full-time opportunity with a flexible hybrid work schedule. The salary range is $80,000 to $95,000 depending on education and experience.
