Organization Background:

The World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia (WTCGP) is the Region’s leading non-profit international trade services organization dedicated to expanding the global growth of companies in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. The WTCGP is seeking an experienced and dynamic communication professional to join the WTCGP team.

A membership organization, the WTCGP helps increase global sales for companies in Greater Philadelphia, through its trade services and educational programs, driving economic growth and job creation for the Region as a whole. The WTCGP opens its doors each day to connect Greater Philadelphia businesses and institutions to global opportunities that also bring prosperity to our local communities and life-enhancing and often life-saving technologies and services to people around the world.

The WTCGP is a licensed and certified member of the World Trade Centers Association, an extensive network of over 300 world trade centers in 90 countries, and is considered among the top world trade centers in the network. For more than nineteen years, the WTCGP has served as Pennsylvania’s leading regional export representative in the State. The WTCGP has been helping companies, largely small and medium-sized businesses, increase their sales since 2002 and is proud that these companies, as a group, have reported over $2.0B in increased export sales. Large medical and educational institutions look to the WTCGP to advance their international growth strategies, and we also have key partnerships with corporate professional service providers – banks, law and accounting firms, and logistics companies that provide important services to the WTCGP client companies.

As Director of Communications, you will have an opportunity to join a small non-profit comprised of an experienced, dynamic, and dedicated international trade team, recognized for its impact in the business community and significant role in shaping Greater Philadelphia’s place in the global economy. You will also play an integral role in promoting the WTCGP’s key program initiative, Selling to the World, that will expand global opportunities for underserved communities including MWBEs.

Position PurposeThe Director of Communications is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive, strategic marketing and communications plan that strengthens and builds the WTCGP brand, supported by engaged groups of stakeholders, sponsor groups, and world-class programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Communications: Create and implement an integrated communication and promotional plan that enhances awareness and support of the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia programs and services

  • Develop stories highlighting WTCGP’s members and client companies and how the WTCGP has contributed to the success of companies and to advancing economic growth in the region
  • Develop client testimonials and video interviews to be used on the WTCGP website and for general marketing purposes
  • Utilizing these stories, develop a standard presentation for the WTCGP to be used in sponsorship/partner/donor solicitation and for use in events
  • Assist in the development of remarks and presentations of President and Board Chairman

Public Relations:

  • Develop and maintain key media relationships with regional and national press
  • Identify opportunities for the WTCGP to be featured in broadcast, print, and online media
  • Seek speaking opportunities for President and key staff to share WTCGP messaging

Marketing:

Oversee the work of the Digital and Design Coordinator including the development of collateral materials, email campaigns, Annual Review, event/program flyers and any other promotional digital and print materials, website content management, and member portal management

  • Develop content for the weekly newsletter
  • Supervise social media postings
  • Develop content for website updates

Programs and Events:

  • Lead the development, execution, and evaluation of all programs and events, providing leadership, motivation, direction, and support to the organization, focusing on the WTCGP’s annual signature events – Global Business Conference, World Trade Centers Day Awards, and Bringing the World to PA
  • Produce events including stage set-up, timeline, catering, and coordination with participants
  • Hire and work with sound/audio production company
  • Work with the videographer to create honoree tribute videos which includes scheduling and conducting all individual interviews, storyboarding each video, video editing, and day-of-show unveiling
  • Contract emcee and prepare all speaking remarks as needed
  • Hire musical talent for events and curate live music selections
  • Oversee production of event collateral materials
  • Working with the WTCGP team, develop Annual Calendar of Events and Marketing and Events Budget for Annual Business Plan, establishing detailed revenue and expenses for each program and event
  • Oversee post-event summary, evaluation, and follow-up in a timely manner, consistently striving to improve profitability and develop new programs and formats
  • Work closely with the WTCGP team to gain collective input and ideas on event concepts and execution that will strengthen programming, grow membership, expand benefits to members and other companies, and increase profitability

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has supervisory responsibility for the Digital and Design Coordinator

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of five to ten years experience in a communications capacity and background in the management of programs and events
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, Board and Advisory Council Members, external partners, and sponsors
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also be effective independently
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, adapt to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines, and anticipate needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and Social Media web platforms
