Position: Director, Leadership Gifts

Reporting to: Chief Development Officer

Location: Washington D.C., (Temporarily remote)

The Director of Leadership Gifts executes a national strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gift prospects, building a robust prospect pipeline and developing a strong relationship with RAINN's current supporters by executing the moves management process. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Leadership Gifts has duties that include but are not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and drive RAINN's overall strategy and execution of major and planned gifts
  • Manage regional leadership gifts staff and corresponding regional fundraising strategies
  • Utilize prospect research platforms to create prospect pipelines of individuals and corporations that can make 6-8 figure leadership gifts
  • Train other RAINN staff members on how to do an elevator pitch for fundraising
  • Write proposals for major donors and corporations, create cases for support
  • Implement a moves management strategy for the department
  • Conduct in person solicitations
  • Work with development associate and database manager to ensure data accuracy
  • Set annual goals for each major gifts officer and manage progress towards goals on a weekly basis and offer training and assistance where needed
  • Manage a portfolio of 100-200 current and prospective major donors
  • Work with Chief Development Officer and development team to implement an effective national fundraising strategy for attaining fundraising goals
  • Plan and execute prospect solicitation strategy through regular national travel (up to 50% of time)
  • Keep abreast of RAINN program and policy developments and current issues in the rape/sexual assault field
  • Develop and coordinate fundraising campaigns and events
  • Manage budget, analysis and forecasting for Major Gifts
  • Develop new individual and corporate funder relationships
  • Develop and manage a planned gift strategy to include bequests, retirement plans, trusts, real estate, and stock gifts
  • Ensure data management and entry is done by all leadership gifts staff for their donors, including notes from meetings, emails, asks, proposals and moves management plans
  • Work closely with Director of Institutional Gifts and Director of Individual Gifts to ensure coordination and efficacy of campaigns
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications/Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • 8 years of experience in major gifts, 2 years of planned giving experience, and 5 years of experience in managing a national major gifts team
  • Demonstrated ability to personally solicit major gifts from identification to cultivation to solicitation to stewardship.
  • High level of motivation and assertiveness; self-starter.
  • Ability to travel as necessary (up to 50%)
  • Experience with Every Action desired
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly creative, flexible, adaptable and empathetic
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive information and ability to discuss issues surrounding sexual violence.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).
  • Must be able to provide (upon hire) proof of vaccination for COVID-19.

  • The person in this position needs to regularly move about inside the office to access cabinets, office equipment, etc.

  • Must have vision correctable to a level where an individual can operate a computer, visualize text on a computer monitor.

Conditions

This position is based in Washington, DC. Please note that RAINN staff are temporarily working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The individual in this role will have to reside in the area.
