Description

What do you do all day?

At NMSI, our people mean everything to us. They are the lifeblood of the organization. Without our staff, NMSI is just an idea. The Manager, Development, will play a critical role as the operations lead on the Development Team providing important fundraising services that will increase revenue in support of NMSI’s mission. A strong candidate for this role will be someone who believes deeply in NMSI’s mission, loves to write donor communications (like grant applications, corporate funding proposals, and donor reports), excels at detailed data and process management, and has a demonstrated commitment to DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice). This role is an exciting opportunity to use your non-profit development experience to build and improve fundraising systems at NMSI – while also growing in your career by working with and learning from senior-level frontline fundraisers and NMSI executives.

The Manager reports to the Senior Director, Development and can be based from a home office anywhere in the contiguous U.S. This position does not have direct reports. Occasional travel is required for in-person meetings and conferences.

What are the details?

Donor Communications, Proposal Writing, and Grant Support (40%)

  • Build and maintain a knowledge management system for fundraising content (data, grant narrative, financials, etc.)
  • Support frontline fundraisers with development of proposals and donor reports, which includes conducting research, compiling, and writing content, and coordinating input/review across departments
  • Manage processes to ensure timely and effective creation of funding proposals and impact reports; manage reporting schedules and deadlines to ensure that milestones are met in a timely manner
  • Ensure appropriate documentation for financial and programmatic commitments and share across teams, (i.e. MOUs, grant agreements, partnership agreements, reporting requirements, contracts)
  • Liaise with the Research & Evaluation Team to ensure that we have updated data and information; work with other teams as needed to gather quantitative and qualitative information (Programmatic Partnerships, Teaching & Learning, Finance)
  • Ensure that all grant-related documents are properly stored and archived

Management of CRM and Other Fundraising Systems (35%)

  • Serve as the resident CRM (Raiser’s Edge) expert for the development team – supporting frontline fundraisers in creating, updating, and effectively tracking donor profiles and fundraising opportunities
  • Manage all fundraising platforms, including Raiser’s Edge NXT, Fundraise Up, iWave, and PowerBI
  • Generate data reports to visualize and highlight prospect tracking, pipeline status, and progress to goals
  • Manage gift processing for individual, corporate, and foundation contributions

Donor/Prospect Research & Analysis (25%)

  • Identify and qualify new donor prospects capable of significant financial support for NMSI programs
  • Conduct high-quality research on national and regional donor prospects to determine fit and inform cultivation and solicitation strategy
  • Develop donor briefs, meeting prep, and other resources as needed to support fundraising strategy and efforts

What are we looking for?

  • Education & Experience. You have relevant and direct fundraising operations and grants management experience. Experience in fundraising management systems is required. Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT and Raiser’s Edge 7 and reporting experience with PowerBI, or similar platform is highly preferred.
  • Expert Communicator. You are a concise, compelling writer and an effective verbal communicator.
  • Flexible. You are comfortable working in an ambiguous environment with competing priorities.
  • Growth Mindset. You learn from failure and crave feedback because you know that it makes you better; you are also eager to give feedback to your manager and colleagues.
  • Inclusive. You can work effectively with people regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or job type—or any other factor that makes us unique!
  • Organized & Productive. You meet deadlines and independently follow through on all assigned responsibilities. You navigate prioritizing your work effectively while managing multiple projects so that nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Detail Oriented. You pay attention to minute details of projects and tasks to ensure excellence.
  • Relationship Builder. You have a knack for building relationships quickly and inspiring those around you.
  • Reliable. You can work effectively with minimal supervision but know when to ask for help. You maintain private information and handle it with sensitivity and integrity.
  • Results-Driven. You push yourself and others to achieve results. You consistently achieve results despite challenges and temporary setbacks.
  • Strategic Mindset. You see the big picture and articulate pictures and visions of possibilities to drive our work forward.
  • Tech Savvy. You embrace technology to enhance your work effectiveness but not to replace hard work. You have facility with database use and management for maintaining, tracking, and analyzing your information and are adept at learning new technologies quickly.
  • Data Expert. You have a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and data accuracy with the ability to collect, organize, track, analyze and utilize data.
  • Entrepreneurial. You live for the hustle required to forge new paths; you collaborate well with others to make things happen.
  • Sense of Humor. You don’t take yourself too seriously and know how to balance work and fun.
