Description

Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER) works to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy, increase energy independence and reduce our contribution to climate change. Based in Carbondale, CO, CLEER acts as a catalyst to bring together local governments, utilities, businesses and individuals to set and achieve ambitious emissions-reduction goals. As a nonprofit consultancy, CLEER manages multiple programs and projects in western Colorado and statewide, including Garfield Clean Energy, ReCharge Colorado (14 counties) and the Colorado Clean Diesel Program.

The Development Manager is a new full-time (or possibly part-time) position at CLEER, and the successful applicant will play a critical role in mobilizing the resources needed to scale up CLEER’s work to meet the growing urgency of climate change. Duties include developing and implementing the organization’s efforts to grow its grants, government contracts and individual and corporate giving. The Development Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and will have the opportunity for increased responsibility and career advancement.

The ideal candidate will be a team player and a self-starter who is excited to create something new, build relationships and create positive change on one of humanity’s greatest challenges. A willingness to learn is essential. Collegiality, flexibility and a passion for climate action are highly desirable.

Specific duties include:

  • Fundraising strategy: work with the Executive Director and other staff to develop fundraising goals, strategies, tactics and budgets
  • Grants: research and prioritize opportunities, write grants, manage workflow, track applications and fulfill reporting requirements
  • Government contracts: assist program staff in developing proposals
  • Individual giving:
    • Research, cultivate and arrange meetings with prospective donors; strategize solicitations and develop materials as needed; steward existing donors; thank and provide public recognition
    • Create and execute CLEER’s annual appeal mailing, Colorado Gives Day emails and other fundraising emails and acknowledgment letters
  • Corporate giving: maintain and grow the CLEER Allies program through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Other responsibilities:
    • Develop and maintain the fundraising components of CLEER’s database/CRM (SalesForce)
    • Provide reports
    • Promote giving through CLEER’s website, social media and other means
    • Create fundraising materials
    • Train, coach and coordinate other staff and board members on fundraising roles

Essential qualifications:

  • A commitment to CLEER’s values and an understanding of the issues CLEER works on
  • Nonprofit, sales or other relevant work experience
  • Outstanding relationship-building skills and ability to connect with people
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong speaking and writing skills
  • Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheets

Preferred qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in a development and/or outreach capacity in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience in major gifts and/or grant writing
  • Experience with one or more donor database systems
  • Experience in or knowledge about clean energy
  • Experience in communications

Salary and benefits:

  • $55,000-$75,000, depending on experience
  • Benefits include 12 days vacation and 12 days sick/wellness per year, monthly health insurance stipend and employer IRA contributions
